I was trying to figure out how I could work that deal with this store, I'll have to wait for a similar circumstance and hope I catch them in a weak moment.

Yes. The variable rate plans are crazy. The price for NG (which fuels some of the generator plants) went batshit crazy due to high demand. So if you had a variable rate, your bill is going to induce a stroke. If you have fixed rate then you'll be less exposed as the companies have to sell you the power at the lower rate, but the power companies have already said they will be increasing their rates because of this.

Also, some of the smaller producing companies are likely going to go broke.

I have a feeling the areas with the most fixed rate customers are who went without power the longest

Completely arbitrary observation here, and I could be 100% in the wrong. But it seems to me the areas of DFW hit the hardest were the outskirts, particularly north FW, keller, argyle, and to a smaller degree the far south - spots in crowley and burleson.

These are the areas with the newest construction. Its mostly residential, new grid, and fully dependent on electric. The neighborhoods that didn't experience a blip were inner city, older, and each unit had a lower demand on average, due to smaller homes,, lower ceilings, and a greater percentage of gas appliances. From a heartless bastard POV, the load from newer neighborhoods is a bigger target, demand is higher, infrastructure is more taxed, and it's easier to detangle the residential areas from critical members like hospitals and other essential services.

Not far off on my end. Small house, built in the ‘50s, gas everything. Though it does take the sparky stuff to make it all work, but still.

Though, I could look across the main road through town and it was the apocalypse over there... Really surreal.

Most of my family is centered around eagle mountain/saginaw/north FW. They were knocked out. Friends and co-workers on the outskirts suffered too.

Both sets of parents got hit with the 45/45 cycle. One set in Rendon, the other in outskirts of Burleson, east of I35.
