So I have heard the horror stories of 37s on Tacoma’s, but I noticed all of these people use there Tacoma’s for heavy off-road use. My question is, will I have any problems If I run 37s strictly for on road use. I know there will be accelerated wear on suspension components, but will they be breaking left and right similarly to the people who use their Tacoma’s for heavy off-road use? I would take it off the road maybe a few times a year. I understand the mpg loss and all of that, I am just wondering if I will have any problems running 37s for a daily driver. Around town and the occasional 3 hour road trip.

Not from experience however my thoughts about it would be, those tires would be so heavy that I’d guess you’d be getting around 10-12 mpg which would absolutely ruin any 3 hour drive for me. I also imagine these trucks are absolute dogs with 37s even with a regear except maybe 5.29s. There’s likely going to be a good amount of cutting. There’s a thread on here for fitting 35s with minimal cutting so maybe they’d know or be able to give your pointers but I don’t think it would go well or be close to worth the headache or hassle of doing it

    Andrew, welcome to the forum.
If you run 37's on the road, here's what will happen:
Pros: It will look cool to a certain demographic
    Cons:
Accelerated wear on every suspension and driveline component inc transmission and engine and power steering.
    Reduced mpg by 30%.
Sluggish acceleration. Even changing gearing won't help much on 37's.
The truck was not designed to run 37's.
The center of gravity will rise and be more apt to rollover in emergency maneuvering.
It will handle like crap and ride like shit.

But it will look cool to a few folks. The above is fact. Good luck!

I’m doing about an 8 inch lift so I was hoping I could fit 37s relatively easily. If you could imagine it’s very much a mall crawler, and I may get hate but I have a 4wheeler I do all my off-road shenanigans with. I’m just trying to look cool going back and forth from college and making an occasional road trip. Regearing will definitely come just not in the near future. I think I can deal with the mpg I’m just afraid of breaking things because I hear that’s when the money adds up

thank you for the welcome! your reply tells me pretty much everything I need to know. I also like hearing different POVs on the tire size. It’s definitely tempting especially when I have the money to burn at the moment and the only extra stress it gets is towing a jet ski or an atv.

Wheel bearings. CV shafts. Drivetrain. Play to play man. You will break things when the vehicle is not properly designed to accept those mods.
You could build the truck for 37's but it will cost $$$$$$ and it wouldn't have an 8" lift lol.

It’s definitely a different build then what most people have on this site but I’m really weighing out the pros and cons as of now. We’ll see how it goes!

Unless you go straight only and there are no bumps ever, this really seems like massive repairs bound to arise eventually. If you plan on keeping the truck long term it's probably not the best idea. Seems like people pull off 35s decently well.

I think you’d look cooler on 35’s and a 3 inch lift but that’s just my 2 cents

edit: honestly 8 inch lift kinda screams over compensating for something if u know what i mean so might wanna avoid that on campus

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
It's your truck, your taste, your wallet - do what you want.
Personally, I think it's stupid and will cost you dearly - the mods, the maintenance and the resale value when you get tired of it.
But then, this is coming from a once 18 yo that once thought that dual exhaust on a 6 cylinder '67 Camaro was cool.
If I only knew then what I know now .....

Amen. 3” lift and 33”- 35” tires look great on these trucks. Seeing an 8” lift with 37s on a Tacoma would evoke laughter vs Envy. OP, unless you plan on running over all the economy cars at your school, I’d personally go with a more conservative approach... for looks, reliability, and gas mileage (if you care about such a thing).

    Lots--
fucking great point. Do what you want it’s yours.. lots of opinionated clowns here--- I'll run 37's myself someday. Build it right tho. 8" will look like absolute Shit IMO and drive horrid. Do a 3" suspension lift and chop body mounts and do some cutting. hEY @TacomaBlu What Lift did you have with your 37's?

Like others have said you'll get less than 10mpg and longer term your power steering rack probably won't like it.
