well I’m young and I have no obligations. So all the money I make goes into hobbies and starting to put it towards school costs too.

This guy is on 8 in the front I believe and 37s. He has quite an interesting wheel choice but he’s got the idea.

@CT Yankee FWIW, inline six engines actually benefit greatly from a well designed dual exhaust.

OP, if you are determined to take this route, I will, at a minimum, advise you to attempt to keep it driveable by choosing parts wisely. Street oriented AT tires, the lightest you can find. Wheels... keep em' light. Upgrade the brakes to something larger with a hot pad. The rear driveshaft will be taking the most abuse, get the angles correct, maybe run a double cardan joint at the mid point. A large cooler for the automatic transmission.

I bought the truck with a 6in Fabtech and 3in body. I swapped the front to Camburg UCA with full coilover and Alcan springs in the rear. The ONLY cutting was the drop bracket and cab mount. No major mods like others alluded to who dont know what they are talking about. I also had 529s. Ran 80 all day straight as an arrow at 12-13 mpg.

    Yes

I always find it amusing when folks with pretty much stock trucks have such strong opinions and even go so far as to emphatically state that their opinions are fact. Let's review your comments with some real world input from someone that had a Taco with a big lift on 35's and stock gears for a decade and wait for it...actually did some serious offroad miles too :

    Cons:
Accelerated wear on every suspension and driveline component inc transmission and engine and power steering. - FALSE I never broke anything and via a faulty head gasket I've seen the internals of my motor that ran 150k on 35's with stock gearing and it looked perfect. My transmission was also mint at 150k. In theory there is some truth to a wider track width / wheel offset placing more strain on wheel bearing but mine lasted 100K and even then it was only the drivers side, pass side bearing was still in great shape...but our T4R with identical bearings and 100% stock set up imploded a wheel bearing at 70k ...Next up - guys like you always like to talk about CV wear and tear so yeah - my 100% stock T4R needed a new DS CV and boots at 80k...the truck with identical cv's, a lift and 35's... never had a cv issue.

Reduced mpg by 30% - Yup true but honestly the average custom truck enthusiast could give a huge shit less about mpg.

Sluggish acceleration - true but again kind of like the mpg issue do you think someone running 35's or 37's gives a shit about racing Honda Civics at stop lights ?

Even changing gearing won't help much on 37's. - FALSE - 4.88's on a second gen or 5.29's on a third would help a ton and there are now trans tunes available to help as well.

The truck was not designed to run 37's. - True ...but kind of a useless Captain Obvious filler statement no OE vehicle is designed to do anything an enthusiast does with it and that is why we have a billion dollar automotive aftermarket industry in US with all kinds of cool stuff that allows us to do whatever the heck we want.

The center of gravity will rise and be more apt to rollover in emergency maneuvering - yes the COG will rise but did you know that a truck with 35's or 37's and has a track width that is 6" + wider than OE wheel and tire config ? So, the equation can actually be neutral or even improved over OE due to the much wider track width. This guys mentioned 24x12's which would put his track width a freaking foot over stock...

It will handle like crap and ride like shit - Nah only half accurate and the ride like shit portion is only by comparison to the C rated OE mini van tires vs the typically E rated tires at 35 or 37"...and again do you think that anyone actually cares about sports car handling when they are building a bro dozer ?

Damn.....college $$ must be different now.

I had multiple student loans plus part time jobs. Rode the city bus, the ol' rust bucket Buick sat in the parking lot. As the semester was approaching finals a typical meal was red beans and rice. Certainly, didn't have 1000's of $$$ to dump into 4 wheels.

Hope you seriously consider holding off on your mods until post graduation and during full employment. Your plan is big $$ mods prone to many post-mod issues.

BTW, there will always be 1 person to say, "I've done the same on my truck, never had any issues. All the naysayers are full of opinions and BS." The norm is different than an outlying example.

thank you for the info. I drive about 10k miles a year. I’m not necessarily concerned about accelerated wear but breaking stuff is my biggest concern. It’s nice to hear that I won’t be breaking things left and right if I stay on road. I drive like a grandma to begin with so hopefully I can keep the gas mileage out of the single digits, but other than that, it’s for sure gonna be a bro dozer. Big and cool haha.

I do have supportive parents that will pay quite a large amount of my college fees. To begin with, where I’m attending is not too expensive for today’s standards. After doing my entire truck setup I will still have a good amount left. Let’s just say I have been saving for a long time. I knew I’ve wanted a really nice setup since I was in middle school lol

Good for you to have parent $$ support for college. My college $$ were my burden.

Are your folks supportive of the $ truck spend? You could ease their $ burden by handling some of your college costs.

But these are questions for you and your family to wrestle.

    Just things to think about.

There are a few members on here running drop bracket lifts simultaneous with LT kits. Not my style but might be worth looking into, go big or go home.
