Keep track of him Krookz. When you see him without horns, retrace his steps & you might find them.

I usually look for them while out turkey hunting in the spring. I like follow the snow line as it melts up working logging roads.

I guess some people train dogs to sniff them out.

Yep, just get out there (which includes a bit of wheelin) then pick a ridge and start walkin. Me and my buddies are pretty religious about this activity, and can give great info as to what critters did not get shot during the hunting season. I'll easily put on 100-150 miles on foot per season looking around. Great exercise, one of the prettiest times of year and the dogs love it just as much as me! I can't find the picture right now, but I just made my first "piece" with antlers...a nice 5 bottle wine rack. My wine-o wife loves it. A few pics here from a trip last year..

That's pretty much it. It's not a good idea to pressure the animals over the winter so if I go out early I always drop grain to help them out. It's best to leave areas they bed in until the spring and keep an eye on where they feed. I check the bedding areas after the snow is gone and they've moved on.
Like NT, it's become a yearly ritual for me. Good to see I'm not alone

I think it's a different deal where you live, we don't worry about pressuring....way too many places they could be to worry about that....

Cool I learn something new today...so basically by reading the defintion of "shed hunting". If I go out and find some antlers it would mean that there's a buck or bull around that area correct? Because the definition says that they usually shed in the same area..

If you find sheds there was a buck/bull there wintering. They have summer & winter ranges in the mountains & move between them.

I've read that some states have defined shed seasons so check your local laws.

I'm gonna bring this ancient thread back to life for a minute.

Has anyone here ever trained a dog to help find sheds? I've read a few write ups and how to's but I just wanna get some info from some other sources, cause this place is reliable, right ;).

Anyone know of any books or kits that can help with this?
