Recently Purchased 2017 TRD - Was it listed inaccurately?

SOLVED: I bought what was advertised as a TRD Pro but is actually a well-optioned TRD Sport. Happy with the truck, not happy with the dealer.

I will preface this post by saying that, despite not having spent much time behind the wheel, I really dig this truck. Regardless of the trim level that it actually is, I'm happy with its features and look forward to the fun that this truck will provide for years to come. That said, after some research, I think the used dealer that I purchased this truck from listed/advertised it inaccurately. My greatest concerns are that:
    • I paid an illegitimate premium, and
    • The eventual re-sale value of this vehicle is relatively less than what I had thought it could be.
I'm hoping TW will help me get to the bottom of this mystery.

TL;DR - I purchased a 2017 that was advertised to be a TRD Pro, but seems to be a well-optioned TRD Sport.

I was admittedly very excited when I found this truck, which was likely clouding some of my judgement/observations as I was considering buying it. This was probably made worse when a pre-purchase inspection at a local Toyota specialty shop came back "clean" and the only remaining obstacle to ownership was a call to my bank. I had not set out to buy a TRD Pro, necessarily, but its factory features aligned with what I was looking for in my next vehicle. It has a number of features that I have been led to believe were standard for the Pro trim, and a number that seem to be missing. I'm happy to go into these in detail if necessary.

I only just discovered this utility today, but think the results of a VIN lookup in Toyota's Vehicle Information Lookup tool suggest that this truck is a well-optioned TRD Sport.

I appreciate your thoughts/opinions and look forward to learning a thing or two about my Tacoma!

Does it have crawl control and a locker?

Based on the info provided, it looks like a TRD Sport. You can look at your overhead console and there should be dial for crawl control and a button for MTS and rear locker if it's a Pro. If not, it's a Sport. The Pro would also have Rigid fog lights and Fox shocks and TRD skid plate.

It's a Sport. Dealers have no fucking idea how to list transmissions, much less trim levels.

    Sorry you were misled.

Not unusual for a dealership to "mis-label" a trim level when advertising a vehicle.....see it all the time. I don't see the locking differential listed so looks like you were sold a well-optioned TRD Sport. I believe TRD Pro trucks had 16" wheels in '17.

Thanks for the info. No 'extra' controls in the overhead console. The other features you mention are some of the first that I noticed were absent. I should have looked deeper than the TRD wheels and grille that the previous owner added.

Like I said, my judgement was clouded by excitement, so I'll have to chalk this up as a lesson learned.

    Yep, thats totally a sport.

Seats are listed as black/orange. Pro came with "leather" with red so no orange.
Tires are 17 inch. pro came with 16 inch
It lists black trim headlights, pretty sure thats a pro thing though

But your best bet to tell if its a pro is to look at the fog lights, they should be small rectangles and not round. Then look at the suspension, they should be red and silver and say fox on them.

Though both these things can be swapped out (I have a offroad, but have pro suspension)

Looks like you might be in MN (twin cities toyota listed on the sheet) Im here in MN too.

Since you paid for a PRO, I would go to the dealer and discuss an appropriate ‘discount’.

Even if is an honest mistake, They are the ‘experts’ and should have known. It sounds like they sold it to you as a PRO, so either way I believe you are owed a bit of a discount...

Sorry this happened. I guess the bottom line is what you paid in the end. If the price was what a Pro would go for, then they owe you something since they mis-listed the vehicle. Hopefully they will agree...

I agree with this. Depends on what you paid.. if it was sold at the Pro price I'd be calling them. Regardless, congrats on the new truck. Lets see some more photos!

It has a TRD PRO grill...probably a knock off, that doesn't make it a pro. Do you have any pictures of the interior, upper console, suspension?, front skid plate?

    Don’t be too bummed OP.
The Sport is a well capable truck. Don’t think it won’t go places.

The dealership should not have advertised it as a Pro. And subsequently the price should be based on the true specs of the truck.
