This Can't Be Good!

Replacement seal #1.... started leaking after one day.
Just installed replacement seal #2. Lets hope this one works!

 

OEM seal?
Shaft surface and mounting surfaces cleaned VERY thoroughly?
Seal mounted square, and driven to the correct depth?
Did you use a seal installer (those cheap, walrus installers don't work worth a damn!)?

Just a tool used to drive the seal in square and evenly. I usually just find a section of PVC Pipe to do it.

 

Leaks can be found by cleaning them with things like degreaser and brake cleaner. Then spraying the dry area with enough Gold Bond foot powder spray so that it creates a dry white film.
If the film stays white, there is no leak.
If it discolors, there is a leak.
There are other ways to check leaks.

I hope install didn't get fucked up.
I think when I installed ECGS bushing into my clamshell housing I fucked it up the first time, including pushing it in at too deep of a millimeters depth, that caused a leak.
Went back in there again a second time to re-do it with a new seal and it hasn't leaked since.

 

I used a pvc fitting to gingerly push the seal into place. I know where the leak was from, I could see it. But yes. Lets hope this time works better.
