good to know. I had a gear wrench snap ring pliers snap the tooth off.

 

I saw this and with no sense of scale thought it was a keychain-sized impact wrench. Even if it was that size, it'd still deliver the required ugga duggas

Well my latest project...new jumper cables. Ive always hated the basic, cheap ones you usually see. Get hot fast and the clamps tend to suck. Well i accidentally melted one of my sets trying to test glow plugs within 10 seconds of turning on (my fault to be fair). That pissed me off enough to make a much more durable set.

Only one minor changes...the Grote clamps come with a 1/4" bolt for securing the cable to the clamp, but the hole for the bolt is sized for a 3/8" bolt. A 2/0 lug with 1/4" is not asuper common item either. So swapped the bolt out for a 3/8" and went with a more standard 2/0 lug with 3/8 hole.

My one complaint with the Grote clamps is the grips that go on. They are extremely tight. Even the side without the wire was a pain in the butt to get on. The side with the wire (and the bolt head) was even more of a pain. Applying heat to the grip helped quite a bit



Yeah they are a lot heavier than what most people carry. But I feel a lot better knowing they are way more durable. Expensive? Yes. But will last pretty much forever if taken care of.

 

I made quite a few sets of cables with welding cable over the years

Most cables on the market are of such poor quality and so thin and seem to freeze in the cold temperatures

 

What did this project cost?

 

Not sure if this fits here. But used the 3m headlight restoration kit on my/my wife’s new daily/ third vehicle. Worked great. Coated them with some spray that’s supposed to keep them from turning yellow. We shall see.

Completely agree.

You can definitely do things cheaper but this set was ~$200. You could definitely go with a cheaper set of clamps (like a 500amp instead of 900amp). The wire you could go with something less (1/0 or 2awg) to save a bit of money. Just depends what your use is. Ive been using these more and more for random testing so it was worth it to me to just grab the biggest/best stuff.

 

Friendly ppe reminder. Don't know that I'd still have a finger if I didn't have gloves on.

No. Gloves are bad. They will allow spinning objects to grab and be pulled in more. You got lucky. You SHOULD be using the disk guard. That's the appropriate PPE.

Touche on the disk gaurd, Have 3 angle grinders and have taken it off all of them although in this case I dont think it would have made a difference. As for the gloves I will continue wearing them but I see where you are coming from.

 

I thought the glove thing was more for lathes, belt sanders, etc. Stationary things that can suck you into it, not something like an angle grinder.

Edit: I, too, will continue to wear gloves while using an angle grinder.

Ouch! I bet it bled like a stuck pig. Do yourself a favor and go get a couple of stitches. That way you know it will be clean and the wound will heal properly. Been there already too. I wear gloves with a grinder. I keep the guard on grinders...most of the time. From my experience, distractions and kick-backs lead to unwanted cuts. Either in metal or flesh. Keep it clean to prevent infection.
