I kept a Tarantula for awhile back in 1981. Right after I moved to Arizona and we seen a family of Tarantulas crossing the road. My Uncle caught one for me, it crawled right into a paper sack. Fed it crickets.
A few people told me that Tarantulas are relatively docile and you can let them climb up on your hand/arm. I just took their word for it but never tried it:rofl:

Not the best pic as it was taken through the enclosure wall, but my Goliath Birdeater finally came out of hiding after molting. First time I've seen her outside in about 6 weeks and she bolted right back into her burrow. I wasn't able to measure but I'd guess 8-9" easily.

A picture of Cecil, from last fall. Haven't seen him out and about his enclosure since winter started. Hopefully his hibernation is go6well and he comes out in spring and starts eating again. He's fun to watch take down crickets

Well, tonight was feeding night. My two youngest ts (gbb b.hamorii)wasted no time grabbing their dinner. (Small dubia each). Cecil was out and about. Good to see his hibernation is over. I offered him a roach but he is a finicky guy and wouldn't take it. I'll have to make a trip for crickets since they seem to be all he gets excited for.
Then it was time for my big female t.albo, leela. She has been on a roughly 6 month fast. Itd been about 3 weeks since I offered food so I dropped in a medium dubia. At first she seemed interested, but decided to just push it away from her. The wait continues. Possible premolt I'm thinking.

I keep wild spiders in the basement. They free roam.

Although, I keep a watchful eye for Brown Recluse spiders, who like to hide in my wood stash.
