7' Aluminum flatbeds?

Anyone ever put a flatbed on their truck? I know you don't want to get too far from the original length but would a 7' work? The long beds on these are already 6.5' could it work? How about a shortbed? Anyone have pictures of what this might look like? I'm mostly interested in the very simple flatbeds, not the overengineered offroading/camping rigs.
