New Tacoma Owner

What's up everybody, So I am new to the Tacoma world. I have always been a fan of the Tacoma and always wanted one. So I finally pulled the trigger. I currently drive the 2021 TRD Off Road. Just looking for advice on what's worth upgrading, not looking to get crazy just yet. But I am most likely going to in the future.

I hate chrome, always have. so that's one of the first things I'm addressing. Any recs to take care of the chrome rear bumper ?

Have to be honest with myself ha. Finally have my own tacoma I know where this is heading. My ultimate goal is to be able to handle most North American weather and terrain with some style and functionality.

 

Don't lift it

 

You picked a very capable truck to start with. Folks on this forum range from mild to wild in their builds, lots to learn here and helpful people.

 

No desire to life, will I possible get bigger tires downs the road... sure. But won't lift it, currently on the hunt for what I need for the daily, storage components phone holder or rail. so on and so forth

 

Need to get down to specifics of what you plan to do
For example:

My 2021 Trail Edition: Camping, some of which will be boondocking (camp without a campground out away from everything and everyone), hauling kayaks and mountain bikes for day or for camping.

My wife is short and have a 7 yr old. Needed steps, chose predator steps.

Got a bed rack. Not a ladder rack, wanted something more offroad styled. And something I could easily fit 3 kayaks on.

BED MAT, I need to go grab mine. That bed is brutal on the knees lol.

Better tires. Went up 1 size and more all weather, including snow, all terrains.

I too HATE CHROME. Thankfully only chrome I have to screw with was interior and grill. Chrome delete for interior was no sweat. Still debating on solution for grill.

Due to what we will be carrying for camping trips, will be installing airbags soon in the rear. I hate sagging in the rear. It's like those idiots that run around with their pants around their knees.

Also added some offroad type lighting for driving on the tight twisty Missouri country roads and to light up campsite or whatever as needed (sides and rear).

Will be doing something to add a bit of armor to the front so I don't destroy my color matched front bumper. Have no desire to do full offroad armor. May do skid plates underneath just for the "ok not the road I wanted to take" moments.

 

What tire did you go switch to?

 

Bed covers are nice. I’ve had both a roll up (Lund genesis elite) and a camper shell (Leer 100R). Roll ups a the cheaper option and give you some weather protection to whatever’s in back. Toppers a great but a pain to take off and store.

 

Watch the mod itch. I picked up my '21 TRD OR AC MGM just about a month ago after deciding to retire my '06. I'm trying to adjust to the new technology before I consider any major mod. I'll be doing the (reversible) aesthetic stuff first, and putting on a few K miles just to be sure there are no major issues (don't expect any, but...). Recently installed a Leer 180 cap similar to what I had on my '06. Have floor mats & window deflectors ready to go on. Some aesthetic stuff for the cab interior.
I want to learn what my stock truck can do before I can determine IF it needs any significant mods. My off road needs don't involve rock crawling or climbing slopes in the Rockies.
That's just me. A cranky old fart with a love of Tacos and no desire to own a monster mall crawler.
