Hey guys, I have a question on maintenance but time over millage on my 2015 Tacoma, I currently have 21,000 on it and looking for some advice on if the trans and transfer case should be serviced yet or does it sound to early.
I did do the front and rear differential last year. Don’t want to waste money and time in materials but I keep my personal trucks for a long time. Any help would be appreciated.

Wow 21k on a 2015 is really low, I guess you don’t drive it much. It might be a little early I believe and someone correct me if I’m wrong. Toyota’s maintenance schedule is 6 years on the time over millage. You will also need to use that method on you radiator maintenance flush also.

    I think you are fine.
I’d drive it regularly to keep all the mechanical parts from sticking. Like shift solenoids and seals lubricated.

You don’t need to go far. Just far enough to make it through all the gears and keep the battery charged.

The best answer is: It wouldn’t hurt to have them changed.

Personally, if it were my truck. I would wait a bit longer.

Assuming you've owned it from new and have put all those miles on yourself (or at least a reasonable number of them), I'd just stick with the recommended intervals.

Yes purchased it new with 3 miles on it. I guess I will wait to the 6 years like Brain said above, thanks for the input.

I do drive it regularly but not far, but use a company vehicle most of the time. Thanks for the input.

Age is sometimes more important than mileage, but not in this case. At least not yet. I'd rather buy a 5 year old truck with 100,000 miles on it than a 10 year old truck with 50,000 miles on it. Get back with us in 5-6 years, in the meantime get that truck out and drive it or sell it. Letting one sit and not driven will cause problems too.

Not to mention short trips and not letting the truck get up to temp doesn't help the engine either. (Not saying OP does that, just adding to your point.)

it's hard to drive her a lot when you work 65 hours a week, but it does get driven everyday to work, then sits while I run around in a company truck. it gets most the miles on Sunday when I have to run around and do my errands.

Nothing wrong with that. I also commute 90 miles per day, round trip, so my miles add up faster than most. I've owned my Taco since April 2020 and already have 22k+ miles on it that I've added.

I'm not worried about that, sold my 89 Toyota longbed before Tacoma was around with 63K 4 banger and I see it still around going strong and my 03 Tacoma with 45K for the 2015. It's not like I don't maintain them, I might over maintain due to age that's why I was asking for input on the 15.

Depends - are you warming it up and driving 0.5 miles to work every day? Or does it usually sit for a week at a time and you go out on weekends?

thermal cycles age fluids. If you are only driving half a mile to work, it is having a thermal cycle even though you aren’t adding many miles.

Oh no, it goes out everyday minimum 5 days to 6 days a week to work but not far. I does go for a better drive on Sundays when I’m doing my own thing.

I have about 35k on my ‘12 and did the full drivetrain fluid changes 2 years ago at about 31k. I mainly pay attention to the mileage intervals since I won’t drive it for 4-5 months a year. I’ll stretch the timing intervals but am still aware of what needs to be done when.

You’re probably okay for another year or so but if you’re really worried about it, just do it for peace of mind.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
At least do the rear diff (you won’t believe the shit that will come out of that)
