I don't trust them, hence why I Adobe encrypt anything documents I wouldn't be okay with someone seeing. Realistically privacy is not what people think it is. There isn't a 100% safe option. It's like cash. You can hide it all in your mattress where it's safe or stick it in the bank. I chose to put mine in the bank.

lol for sure, it’s just that the privacy narrative is supporting their marketshare right now. As soon as that changes they’ll be first in line.

Their privacy is okay. Apple loves your telemetry. The iPhone sends back where it is to your iCloud at all times.

Apple business practices turn my stomach. I sometimes wonder if Steve Jobs was really Montgomery Burns.

The money i paid for a 64GB SSD could get me 2TB now. I think today was 7 years ago maybe. I'm still waiting for prices to drop more so i can move my 10TB of storage to SSD. Maybe another year or two :notsure:

I built a Windows XP rig around the same era with a creative xfi xtremegamer sound card and paired it with Logitech z-5500 speakers. I think it rivaled many sound systems several times the price. Some of the parts: antec earthwatts 500w power supply, dual core amd processor, 2gb ram, 250gb ide hard drive and an Nvidia 7600gt graphics card. Wasn't the fastest gaming pc, but I got many years of use from it.

I'll probably pick up a couple 5tb+ and pair them in a striped RAID0 array.

I'm probably going to buy a Synology NAS at some point this spring. That being said I'll have two 256 GB SSDs loaded into one of their newer chassis that allows for seperate read/fetch caching and write caching.

The TOF sensor function is pretty cool. I walk away and it stops all the fancy lighting effects. And man these keys are butter smooth and not very loud at all.

Windows passwords are NTLM unless they changed in 10. Hashcat is very good and can utilize GPUs to very quickly chew through NTLM hashes.

Don't buy qnap. My NAS died after just a year which is sad. Still covered under warranty. I had to pay to ship it across the country, $70 bucks. They replaced the mobo that had up and quit, and shipped it back. I got it back, and the tech had bent the rear frame. I posted a complaint to their support department (they are closed on Saturdays). I figured out that the tech had bunched up the rear fan cables, then put the PSU back in and clamped down the screws with the cables between the PSU and frame. Crushed the fan cables, making the fans useless. I replaced the fans with some noctuas anyway, so I really didn't care much. But the support guy was like oh, thanks for letting us know we screwed up on that. Noted. Didn't even offer to send new fans. Done with qnap.

Yeah I've heard nothing but bad things about QNAP and good about Synology.

Haven't built a PC in 10+ years so this one I just built is way cool, imo. Had to hop on the ARGB train.

I went with the QNAP since the hardware was more robust and could handle more users. If synology had hardware specs on par with QNAP, I would have gone with them. I have read countless times that Synology is like the Apple of NAS. It focuses on user experience. The UI is very polished and easy to navigate.

Really? Maybe that's true for certain levels hardware because in the stuff I'm looking at QNAP is kind of garbage, no offense. The QNAP stuff is all based on Mediatek CPUs with a fixed amount of Ram and no ability to use M2 drives as a read and write cache. The Synology not only offers better software, but also uses Intel X86 Celeron processors, upgradable ram, and can use two M2 drives to provide separate read and write cache. Just my opinion though as I check the products out, it looks like on the very low and high end QNAP might be better but their stuff in the middle part of the market I'm looking at is not great.

EDIT: I did find some QNAP stuff with Celeron processors and upgradable ram, but nothing with the cache levels Synology offers.

Mind if I ask ya what you paid for the build? My buddy is looking at a pre-built with similar specs.
