LOL, you got anything you need me to compare? Behind this door, apples. And door #2.

I came to drive a Tacoma after two Rangers and five F-150's going way back to 1990. I never held onto a Ford for more than 4 years or 60,000 miles because 1) they started to eat parts and 2) the resale value tanked over 50,000 miles. I'm finally getting ready to buy a new 4Runner and sell the Tacoma - after 6 years and 115,000 mostly trouble free miles. (Certainly more trouble free than any of my Fords.) Yea, I've been down the Ford road - and I'll take a Toyota thank you.

Yes, the F-150 is a handsome truck with lots more room than a Tacoma. But if you want to compare apples to apples, drive a new Ranger. If you want a full size truck that will outlast and have greater resale value than an F-150, try a Tundra.

Honestly the only reason i'm not back into a Diesel 3/4ton 4x4 truck is because the price now vs 12yrs ago is insane. Even 1/2ton 4x4's are at MINIMUM 50k. Trucks are just too expensive these days. The only good thing is the Tacoma holds good resale and by time I pay it off I can have a good down payment to get back into a real truck.

Don't listen to the naysayers. Having actual POWER is so NICE.

Also the 5.0L V8 F-150 gets better gas mileage than my Tacoma:(

Solid truck! I almost got one, but didn't need a full size. There are a few issues with the 5.0L though, particularly since 2018. Namely, it burns oil right from the factory and Ford can't seem to find a good solution for it. It wasn't an issue before 2018 when they refreshed the engine. The 2.7L EcoBoost is the most reliable of the main 3 engines (3.5L, 2.7L, and 5.0L). Also, any trim below Lariat has plastic dash trim that will warp. Lariat and above have stitched leather which isn't really affected by it. Just some food for thought. I'd still take it over GM, RAM, Nissan, or the Tundra (sorry, guys). This coming from a guy who grew up loving GM. The aluminum is definitely nice for living in the rust belt too!

The 2.7L Ecoboost is best of the options for most people.

I went back to a full-size, Chevy crew cab with a 5.3 and haven’t regretted it once. Not bashing the 3 Tacoma’s I have had through the years but just for comfort, space and power. Don’t regret it one bit.

Also I think the 2.7L Ecoboost is supposedly quicker than the 5.0L.

The 2022 Tundra is supposed to be all new. The current generation is so obsolete.

Depends on the location. The 5.0L is quicker than the 3.5L at sea level, but the EcoBoost shines at elevation. I believe the 3.5L is faster than the 2.7L though.

Yes, it will be. Several rumors about it including its own 3.5L twin turbo. The current gen has reliability going for it, but that's about it. It is underpowered, outdated, and underperforms in just about every metric compared to the competition. That being said, buying the first model year of something isn't a great idea either, even if it is Toyota. As for Ford, the 2021 models all feature the same engines as the previous generation so nothing has really changed there. Some odds and ends in the cab and some other electronic stuff (unless you get the hybrid), but otherwise it mostly looks new and moves some of the fancier stuff down to lower trim levels.

RAM 1500 is well ahead of the F150 in seat and ride comfort. Too bad most RAM 1500 owners report their trucks are in the shop more often than in their garages. And many times RAM dealerships can't resolve the warranty repairs. That's why RAM dealers offer $10,000 off MSRP on new ones and why resale value is poor compared to Tacoma. Tacoma is a truck you can buy at 30 and know it will hold up until you are 70 without needing major repairs Think those RAM 5.7 Hemi's are tough beasts? Think again: https://www.ramforumz.com/threads/ram-hemi-cam-lifter-failure-thread.188978/

Nobody pays sticker. And Ford discounts heavily off sticker, 10% minimum and 20% if you catch someone needing to make a sale. Interest rates on vehicles range between 0%-2% on new trucks. I could have paid cash for the last 2-3 vehicles I owned, but would have lost money taking my investments out of the bank. I paid just enough down to ensure I'm never upside down and finance the rest. The money I have in the bank earns me more every 2 months than I'm paying in interest over a 5 year loan. No way I'm paying cash.

Diesels no longer make sense for non-commercial use. It is a $10,000 option on an F250, fuel is a lot more expensive, maintenance is a lot more expensive and fuel mileage is only better when towing. Ford's new 7.3L gas engine is $10K cheaper and will all but match Fords diesel in towing. It gets 1-2 mpg worse fuel mileage, but you can buy a lot of gas with the $10,000 you save.

I can buy a 4X4 crew cab F250 with the 6.2 for $40-$42K. I can get the same truck in a F150 with the 2.7 under $40K. Nobody has to pay $50K+ for a truck unless they just want to pay for a lot of gadgets. My brother just bought a new 4X4 crew cab Ranger. OTD price was $33K. The new Tacoma's don't come close.

In addition to my 2007 Tacoma I also have a 2014 F150 4X4 crew cab with the 5.0. The 5.0 is nice, but I'm sold on the Ecoboost engines and will go that way with my next truck. When I bought the Ford I had my doubts about the new engines, but I've seen enough. In 2-3 years I'll sell both my Ford and Tacoma and replace them with a new F150.

Good to know about the 2.7. I think that's what I would go with anyways.

I drove the 5.0 and felt that it lacked mid range punch even with the short gears from the 10 speed. Can't replace v8 sound though.

We shall see what Toyota comes up with for the new Tundra.
