Built the truck I want on the Toyota website, the quote was around 38,500. Contacted a dealer about placing the order and their quote comes back at 36,400. How can that be? Only thing I can figure is they missed the accessories I wanted. Sorry if it's a dumb question, first time buying new

I'd have them send you the spec sheet and do a complete once over...very carefully.

The toyota website is giving msrp. What I suspect is the dealer is knocking off $2,100 from msrp.

Don't fret. They'll add in enough stuff to push you way over that.

Then you'll have a new 'how can that be?'

What accessories did you add onto the configuration? The dealership may give you a better price for those

I signed contract on my order. When the truck came the freight had gone up. They honored the contract.

Could be shipping charges or how much the dealership is willing to charge you vs what the build site says. Basically, go through with a fine tooth comb and see where the differences are.

We purchased a 2019 4Runner brand new. Our local dealership wanted about $200 more than what we had seen on CarGurus (through investigation we determined they were offering us the same vehicle, matched by VIN). We went directly to the actual dealership that had it and got an additional $1k off of the CarGurus price. It just depends on the dealership you're dealing with.

I wouldn’t go off the website unless u want to pay that ... go talk to a dealer tell them what u want and negotiate the price . Nothing is set in stone . If they want your business they will work with you on the price .

I'd want to find out what the dealers out-the-door price is. MSRP, and their quote with no specifics, are just a part of the final number. Does their price include anything? Accessories or otherwise? Doc fees and destination may not be included in their price. They may tag some ADM on there in the end too.

We, and you, need more information on what these numbers include.

My bet is that they made that 'mistake' to get you to come in. Once you are there, they are going to tell you there was 'mistake' and it actually is $41,400. At that point, you will be angry AF and have to negotiate your way back down to $38,400. If you have never bought a car new, look out!

Don't buy, look somewhere else where they'll sell you the truck for the exact same price as quoted online.
