Hello, I am new here and this is my first post, I have a 2013 sr5 Tacoma, and Yesterday I was out on my driveway started my truck with the remote, and notice blue smoke on startup for a brief moment it was the first time I have seen that. Today is not doing that the truck has 153,000k on it does anybody have any suggestions on what could be happening or what I should be checking for?

    Thanks,

As stated above you probably had a little oil seep past the valve seals. Probably nothing to worry about unless you see a drop in oil level on the dipstick.

depends on usual driving environs = wear tear

keep an eye on added oil between changes

    1quart added normal

OP, does your truck sit on a sloped surface so that the front is a little higher than the rear?

more than likely average ring wear

a simple compression test ( cold )will tell much about the rings

a leak down test (cold )will tell U much about the valves

    i would expect reasonable wear

Hello there ok thanks for your input on this issue, I've only seen this once it is not doing it anymore and somebody asked me if when I park it is the front seats higher than the back, and yes it does my drive way is sloped.

My 2014 has done the occasional blue smoke thing since brand new with no miles.

A few years back this was being discussed elsewhere and a number of people said the same. IIRC the discussion was heading in a direction that on certain slopes oil may pool near the rear of the upper part of the heads where the cams are and allow some to seep down a valve stem or two.

I have never taken off the valve covers to see if this is a viable explanation.
