So at work, this happened because I was in a hurry and totally forgot that I parked next to a metal seating bench, I damaged the lower part of my passenger door and my rear passenger door. Was wondering if anyone has ever replaced their doors and if they did it themselves or took it in to the dealership. Any advise would be helpful.

Anyone here work for Toyota? How easy is it to DIY the repair?

Looks like a job for a professional body person. The will pull it out, weld as required, mud and paint. Call your insurance company if the deductible isn’t too high.

Thanks bro. My deductible isn't high IMO. $500 I think. This would require me to file a claim but will it affect my insurance? Something I need to look into for sure.

I would ask a body shop for an estimate before replacing doors. You've damage doors not totaled them.

I so feel for you because your truck looks very well taken care of.

You insurance will take hit if you claim it, just so you know. I learned the hard way. Body shop might not be too bad. I accidentally swiped a metal pole with my old RAM. Had it fixed it was about what any deductible would have been. I just stomached the pain and paid.

I hear you my TW brother.

I'm over the top about taken care of my truck.

Once the stabbing sensation has passed it will all work out.

Just another life lesson that you wished never happened.

It’s cheaper to replace the entire door. The entire door is like $600 bucks oem. Ask how I know. There’s more labor and materials in that if they try to fix it. Front looks looks like an easier repair.

Oh man! Bummer deal for you. Yeah, just found out that my insurance may be raised so going through the claims dept is a no go for me. Might have to work some extra OT to get this repair done.

does the door function properly? make a metal patch to stick on with some silicone adhesive (to block from the outside weather) and call it good, put a bandaid on the patch for good measure. Take money saved n spend on beer.

3 bucks for some tin flashing, 5 bucks for some spray paint for the tin (Hammered black would look good), 8 bucks for silicone adhesive and 10 bucks for the 6 pack of your favorite craft beer for the job.

Thats not actually too bad for $600. My thoughts were to but the door bare and swap the internals to the new door then reinstall. But if a new door comes complete for $600, that might be worth while for me. I curious, what did you do to your door to damage it?

That’s for the door assembly, you just have to swap the parts, glass, lock, handles etc. it’s easy.

Don’t feel too bad OP this is some type level stuff I would do. But I’d sink another level and go around blaming the workplace for having a stupid metal bench that no one uses in the summer since it’s too hot on our tooshie anyway!! I digress. At least we can look at it as a glass half full moment that no one was hurt and I’m sure it awoke you from your mid or after work daze enough to be more alert driving home. Life of hard knocks. Been there too many times to keep track at this point. :bananadead:

you are so right on so many levels sir. My worrisome was high for sure after this happened. I was thinking of all possible scenarios on what this is going to cost me, how much time it would take away from me from work and family, and just overall how this all could have been avoided if I slowed down a bit before racing out of work just to beat traffic. Well lesson learned. A very expensive lesson to say the least. This has brought me back to realizing to slow down and not to rush. I will always be in traffic on my way home no matter how fast I jet out of work. Glad I was the last one leaving at the time.

Hindsight is always 20/20. Accidents will happen. Don’t beat yourself up over it though. What’s done is done. Your pride will be sore for awhile until you get it patched up but once you get it back you’ll be just as happy before the damage. Now to eat the bill or worth billing out to insurance. Accident forgiveness could come in handy. +1 for the Santa Clarita Diet.

Yes thank you. My pride will heal, in time, LOL! Now to find the time to get this done as all body shops in my area are Mon-Fri 8a-5p and I work M-F and get out late. But I will have more of a chance in Mid March as my work will come to an end until the job.

HA! Santa Clarita Diet was awesome until they pulled the chord.
