I do agree with the point you are trying to make, but most of my ancestors have long since passed away and they're probably not overly concerned with the current state of the air quality.

You will replace that aftermarket cat in less that a year and once a year after that. The aftermarket cats do not hold up. I go through with customers all of the time and after they have bought about their 3rd aftermarket cat they come and get the one that works on the car. I wish you luck, but it is not going to last a years time.

Added extra awesomeness to its original awesomeness.
I heard they actually have cats in them, don't ask me how that helps your exhaust, but it is worth the cost!

I dunno, Jersey Shore is not doing them any favors...

staying on topic; my buddy has magnaflow hi performance cats on his 2002 and he enjoys them. However, every once in a while it will throw p0420 codes. He clears them and it doesn't come back for a long time.

    Something to keep in mind...

At my dealership, crooks took us for cats on about 20 vehicles (tundras, tacomas, sequoias and 4runners) ...

on the new ones, we had to put OEM back on them, but we used aftermarket on the used ones. Over the coarse of 1 year, all but 1 used vehicle returned from check-engine-lights, customers not being able to pass emissions testing, etc from installing the aftermarket cats. It was a nightmare to deal with. If anybody insists on going the route of an aftermarket cat, I would highly suggest using their highest quality California emissions cat (even if you are not in cali).

Big tires, big lift, Lots of stuff's.
I ran straight pipe with no Cats on my WRX. turbo down pipe straight out, I would never pay that much to replace the stock cat I would change the exhaust headers and all and do a high flow cat and still save some money.

If I replace 1 cat per year, I can get 10 years worth of aftermarket cats for the cost of OEM.

OEM so far have lasted about 4 years each.

Cost solution makes more sense to go with the aftermarket.

According to a friend of mine who works at one of the OEMs, factory parts markup to the dealer is some 300%. The dealer then tacks on another 40% selling them to you. :)

My Mazda Millenia back in 2005 needed a cat replacement. It was covered by the factory emissions warranty, but the price the dealer would've charged was shown on the invoice to be $1500.
