Does anyone know the difference between the OME coils series (887, 888...) vs (2884, 2887...)?

I'm looking to install on my 2016 Tacoma TRD Sport:
    - Bilstein 5100's all around
    - OME front coils (2887 I think)
    - 285/70R17 tires
    - Method Wheels 17"

Thank you for this info! Looks like the OME 887 coil will work best for me.

That is based on my understanding the the 887 is standard weight and 888 is for medium weight (if I were to have a metal bumper and or wench), right?

888 will give you 2.5-3 inch with no added weight. 887 will give you 2 inch. be careful running 285's (33s). depending on your rim, you may need to CMC and get UCA's. all depends

OH! Then Maybe I'll go with the OME 888. I'd like the extra height since I'm going with the larger tires.

Side question: what does AAL stand for in "OME 888 AAL"

so, add a leaf (what brand or spec?) as well as the Bilstein shocks in rear?

I think I just figured out, thanks. AAL = Add A Leaf, now it's obvious!

if I AAL do I need to replace the rear shocks? Is that due to travel distance increasing?

With aal it's a yes and no thing. It doesn't increase the length as much as blocks but most people do it anyway. Buy once, cry once. Trust me, 5100vs stock is night and day. Worth the investment. When marie @HeadStrong Off-Road sees this and replies, she is a wealth of knowledge and can help u pick out the perfect set up for what you need.

If u have any more questions lmk. I was in your boat once lol. Most us are. I'm in a good mood tonight so I'm not going to tell you to use the search bar either lol

887 and an AAL will give you a slight rake close to factory after settling, 888 will get you closer to level by about a half inch.

My truck with 887 and AAL and 285 tires.

It looks taller when I had 265 tires only because the fender liner and top of tire were farther apart.

    285 again

Thanks again for the advice. I've decided I'm going to purchase from Headstrong Off-Road. I appreciate Marie inputting on my thread and they are local to me (sorta). So I want to support local businesses.

I spent about 5 hours yesterday scoring the posts and then cross referencing anything on the web. I went from zero knowledge to knowing enough to get myself into trouble ;) It's pretty daunting to narrow down to the final selection then pulling the trigger on the purchases. Im glad I discovered this forum. I can be difficult deciphering some of the conflicting opinions but overall I found lot's of good info here and the people sound pretty passionate about what they're talking about.

I need to remember to take a bone picture of my truck to do a side by side to post here.

How’d it all turn out? I just purchased the same setup, expecting it to arrive in a couple days! Can’t wait to get it on. 887 OME coils, 5100’s all around, HS 3 pack AAL.

I had the 2887s and 5100s in the front for a long time. They were wonderful. Only thing is, after about 80k miles, the lower shock mount bushing started to deteriorate and crack. Just keep an eye out for that. After settling thye gave me about 2 inches of lift. Make sure u out the 1/4 top spacer on the driver side to get rid of the taco lean

Did you have noticeable lean before hand? I don't, and I'm debating the spacer.

Kit I ordered from Headstrong came with the 1/4’ top spacer for drivers side. Looking to try the install myself, first lift kit assembly. Looks pretty straight forward though.

Stock no lean, the stock coils and struts accommodate for this I belive. When u change it to aftermarket, it does not. For 20 bucks or less on Amazon or from headstong, worth 100%. Do it once so u don't have to take it apart to do it again lol

It is. Don't use a coil spring compressor from the auto parts store, those are scary. Had one break on me before.

Not saying this is safer but if u have a good jack that lowers slowly (I have the one from costco for like 100 bucks) I have done tons of 2nd and 3rd gens this way successfully. Again, do at your own risk and make sure u have a jack that lowers slowly https://youtu.be/vkVLBOnAifc

Install is pretty easy. Tons of vids online. Mark you alignment bolts with a paint pen or sharpie so u can get the alignment straight again. Also a torque wrench helps to make sure everything is torqued correctly. If you're experienced u can do each side in 30-45 mins. If first time, expect 1-1.5 hours for each side.

I would also use a new top hat strut mount. Cost like an extra 50 bucks for both sides but keeps the stock strut together so u can re sell it or keep it for an easy swap next time

Thanks! Good to know. Have the spacer just wasn't sure if it was needed since no noticeable stock lean.
