Missed the boat last night, but ended up trying this on the rocks:

Wasn't bad, good vanilla flavor. I'm not really a 'on the rocks' drinker but trying to cut out some of the sugary mixers.

Set it up and use it to cook a few meals. That will tell you pretty quickly what you might be lacking or might want to add.

Future plan. No idea when I'll be able to do this one. This is assuming moving to Austin. And most likely would end up going more down the coast toward CA instead of direct across UT.

Austin > Tuk > AK > West Coast > Austin

Looks like that would be about 3-4 weeks. Now I just need to (a) Move to Austin and (b) find a month off and (c) have border crossings open. No big deal.

That'd be a hell of a trip! I'd love to do that sometime dragging the camper along. Sadly, for me, it'll have to be a retirement trip.

I won't be doing a camper up to Tuk I can tell you that much!

Been getting into the road trips lately. First real one was when I was on furlough for 2 weeks back to back in July 2020. My wife was doing online classes, I figured for a day or two - skeedaddle, get me and dog out of her hair. The whole time she's going to see me outside sitting in the sun enjoying the weather and she's stuck on computer all day, ew. So, maybe a few days in Maine or NMW. Then decided "Meh, long day - maybe I go to Niagara falls" and then from there "How far is TN?" and then "...How far is Austin from there!?"

Now - I have another one next month, going out to LA. Started off as "Yeah I'll meet up the guys from Texas planning a trip to the Big Texan, as a Rhode Islander...Why not, that makes sense!" and then "...well....Cannonball run is out to LA, I want to do a cannonball run roadtrip out to LA, mostly just as shenanigans, not actually timing....."

After this one in March, I will do another shorter one potentially this summer if I can do a border crossing out to Michigan, up around lake superior/UP, and then down along the western shore of lake mihigan. That's closer to 4-5 days, long weekend + a day and we're good.

This one I posted above up to Tuk is probably in my plans as the longest/most involved one I have planned, and it's basically very VERY early stages. That dash out to AK might not even happen, it's more so a "I mean, I'm THIS close..." sort of thing. We'll see what happens ultimately. That one is at LEAST next summer at the absolute earliest, considering border crossings and vacation time. And if I DO do it next summer, it would be out of RI rather than Austin. Cross Canada and then into AK, not sure what the return leg would be.

But, I do have this rough idea already in the works for once we move to Austin too, so I could be convinced to do a cross-Canada type of thing from RI.
    upload_2021-2-25_11-44-36.jpg

Don't know. Those are all way out in the future. My main focus right now is my cannonball run trip in March.

    upload_2021-2-25_11-47-15.jpg

This is the basic plan. I am debating about TN on the way out or not. It's basically a straight shot to Amarillo and then from there it's more relaxed. Might end up ducking this down to TN on the way out instead. Also out in TX, I'm adding Austin to the trip. But this is it at a high level. 6600 miles on the map.

I'm building (hopefully) my sleeping platform this weekend. Fittings should be here tomorrow and then the rest of the pipe and fittings is from Home Cheapo. Throw some ply on top of that, and then normal bedding.

Anyone got tips to remove rust, and repaint little spots on the roof?
Would one of those pen things from autozone work, or should I just have a body shop do it?

I used the pen and am ok with it. Try it for how cheap it is and if you don't like it the body shop can fix it. At least it will cut down rust until then.

So just to be clear, the paint pen has a scratchy side on it, use that until the rust is gone? then paint it?

Give it a whirl. Body shop may "warranty" their work.

It depends on how 'perfect' you want the repair to be. A body shop will sand the area down and make a larger repair to blend in to the existing paint. I can't imagine it'd be overly cheap. Make sure you get ALL the rust off, otherwise it will just continue to bubble under the new paint. This may even require a small sanding block to locally remove enough material so you get a good fix. A paint pen will not match the color, it will always be just a little off because there's no clear coat. I was using Dr. Colorchip in the past for small chips, never over rusted metal though so I'm not sure how large of a repair that can handle.

After you fix it just put a bumper sticker up there or something. My friend's car in college was a plastic saturn. He backed into a fence gate (I think) which punched a small hole in the bumper. He fixed that with a bumper sticker :notsure:

    upload_2021-2-25_13-55-0.jpg

(I googled "rooftop bumper sticker" to see if I could find an example, but got that instead )

You could do a roof top vinyl wrap. I've seen them done in black vinyl between the roof rails.
