Why didn’t Toyota actually attach the roof trim to the roof?

Are you talking about the long rubber pieces? I’m guessing because not everyone wants a roof rack or Toyota wants to keep it as an option.

I’m looking for some decent two-sided tape to actually attach the trim to the truck.

I just glued mine down with 3m weather stripping and gasket adhesive from the auto parts store. So far so good.

One flew off one day while driving through town at 30 MPH. Lucky me, noticed and turned around to scoop it back up off the street.

Mine came off probably four or five times before I decided to do something about it. I opted to replace them with Rhino RTS tracks which are riveted in addition to bolting to the factory roof rack points. I wanted to be able to run bars or a roof rack, but have the ability to take them off when not needed.

@Will'sSR5 - This is very interesting... Can you please elaborate on your tracks and installation? I want to be able to remove any rack I may use as well...
Pictures / Specs would be appreciated.
