Hey fellas, I have the tape on window or vent shades on my truck. I would like to remove them but I don't know how I would go about removing the 3M tape with out damaging my paint. Any suggestions?

I'd pull off as much as I can with my fingers then soak that crap in Goof Off. Some people use WD40 too. It'll be a dirty job but it will all come off. Then wash that area good to get rid of all the residue.

Get some 10lb monofilament fishing line and use it like floss behind the adhesive. Just take your time.

Clean up any remaining residue with any adhesive remover.

When I bought my truck, one of the vent shades was loose.
The guy at the dealership said they did something and it came loose.
The other was on there TIGHT.

I pulled the loose one off. And it was still on there tight in the places where the adhesive was still sticking. I just pulled it off slowly.

The other one, I used dental floss to get it started.
It worked ok, but it did want to cut into the adhesive some times.
This left adhesive on the truck. I finally just pulled it on off.

I then used adhesive remover and soaked the adhesive that was left on the truck.
You can get the adhesive remover from most auto parts stores.
I used a washcloth to keep it from running down on to the window.
Then used a plastic putty knife to scrape the adhesive off.

It was a bit time consuming, but it worked.

Plain old Mineral Spirits will remove the residual just fine and not harm the paint.

Anything strong enough to remove the glue residue will remove any wax as well. So don't bother waxing your windows or doors until it's all cleaned up.

    Yes, that is true.
I forgot to add that I did rewax the area after I pulled mine off.
    Good catch there:thumbsup:
