What do you guys do for touching up the scratches in your sliders and skid plates? Do you simply paint over the rust or do you sand it down, prime and then paint? This is what I have been doing but it’s a lot of work and I was wondering if it was sufficient to just paint over the rust. The scratches are mostly on the bottom so I’m not too concerned with the finish being perfect. If you paint over the rust what do you use?

    Thanks.

If you can’t get around to painting for a while you could always rub some Vaseline or wheel bearing grease on the rusty spots to sort of seal them up and slow down the corrosion until you can get things cleaned up and painted. I always do this with stone chips on body panels until you can get them repaired with your dealer supplied paint pen.

I don't bother sanding. If there's any loose powder coat chips, I'll scrape them off. Then it's one coat of Tremclad rust reformer followed by 4 coats of Tremclad semigloss black rust paint. Matches black powdercoat reasonably well. In my experience this holds up several years as long as it doesn't get scratched in the same spot.

I do this once a year when I remove the skids for undercoating the frame. The sliders I touch-up in-situ with some newspaper masking the body.

I use threaded rod with those black knobs from home depot. Mounted the rod to the cross bars. For weekend quick trips I'll just carry them in the back but for longer, I'll mount them up top.

Just noticed this tire comes in 33x10.50R17 as well, which would be very similar to the 255/80-17 pizza cutters favored by many in the group. Good alternative to waiting for Cooper STMaxx on backorder... https://www.ebay.ca/itm/293799669614

Nope, you definitely are not the only one getting shoddy work,
one of my warranty repairs was replacing the door handle, didn't realize till I got home that the key would not unlock the door....
I got sloppy and didn't check their work....
They gave me a $50 coupon for parts or service 'cause I had to come back... (without me even asking)

So even in the better shops, you gotta keep your finger up someone's ass and check ALL their work 100%...

I find though that even there "best techs" at the different dealerships have not diagnostic skills for even the basics.... so unless it throws a code it's an uphill battle to get them to acknowledge there is a problem.

Complaints on the Toyota Surveys or to Corporate office then to get their attention though, then they will look into issues a little bit more if they know it's being tracked by corporate, but even then the people that you talk to in corporate are not mechanically inclined in any way so rarely understand what the issues are.

Wait 'till you deal with the other brand dealerships, my older brother was the factory Rep for GM for Southern Ontario.... Lol he would always rant on about how crooked and incompetent GM dealers were....
