Hey tw looking to put a little boost into a 2rz. Not sure what sizing of a turbo charger would be appropriate,or if one from a Subaru or somthing of that nature. Nothing for the track just need to spin bigger tires. Leaning towards re gearing. But some boost would be fun. Any advice or insight is appreciated. Thnxs

If you want to make it move better I would maximize the low end torque better. A Supercharger with high boost 8 10 12 psi and easier to install. Youd be at over 200hp easy. Water meth Injection tune it and youd be good. Imidiate boost is what you need. The 2rz needs more low end power, it makes its power higher in the rpms. When your offroad you want linear power band. If you get a turbo youd want a smaller one to make boost fast. I cant say which one because I'm not much into turbos. The turbo will make more top power for every psi more but requires more to install it. Anyway you go with it will cost a lot. I spent over $1000 on my exhaust alone to get it were I wanted. I can head you in the right way by telling you if you decide on a supercharger the best header that wakes up the 2rz and gives it better torque down lower is the lce long tube that is about 400.00 bucks.

With all that said, what have you done to your 2rz?

Engine wise Its na still. I hope to boost it with the trd supercharger. I have Lce long tube header, and full exhaust. K&n air filter with the injen air intake. Lce throttle body spacer. electric fans, Lce under drive pulley. I might forget something. You can see my profile under information and the complete mod list. I want to get a piggyback to start tuning and stuff. I started by getting the aem airfuel gauge. The truck runs better for sure. But I'm setting up for a stage one cam and the supercharger. My truck will be fun enough and I'll would be enough for me because it's not that heavy. Right now it goes better than before. I have enjoyed the process of seeing the changes make improvements. But performance parts are very expensive you know.

Hi I just want to add that I'm not the 2rz guru or expert or anything like that. I have just been educating myself like anyone else to make the best choices I can.. Spending money customizing cars has not been smart but I'm happy, lol.. When I responded I was trying to be helpful to 1965chevy. He wants boost of course, he's got more weight on his truck with larger tires and the 2rz lacks power which is known. The two boost options after all make pressure in the manifold and are two different ways to get to a desired goal. One is faster to install the other is more complex. Turbo boost comes a bit later on depending on the turbine size and other variables and gives you more of a hit when it starts to pressurise the intake. Anyways your on the right track to boost it because I have looked at all the options from high compression to high reving, to cam upgrades to ported heads etc. and putting boost and ecu tuning are the best way dollar for dollar to get more power from it. Those 3rz and 2rz making ridiculous power are heavily modified with aftermarket ecus and alot of them are not that user friendly for a daily or a street vehicle that needs to be kept reliable also. An important thing is to think realistically about your goals and educate yourself about what you need and what you can spend. I can tell you its gonna cost plenty eighther way to get the extra power you desire. The supercharger charger with enough boost and the other things it needs I think it could work for him. Everyone likes different things, I like both but since I have my exhaust already done I don't want to change it for the turbo so I'm going the supercharger route because I like the simplicity of it more also which appeals to me. Adding a supercharger basically makes it feel like you have a bigger engine because the power and torque ramps up thru the whole powerband. The turbo is more efficient and makes more power. It is a more complex system to install, it has alot more components to it. If he decides on the turbo system a good option is a kit that is thought out already and makes good power were it is needed. The lce engineering one that was mentioned earlier by another member is good. Another one is from Ko racing and there's another company from Australia that has one I heard but I dont know the name of the company right now. The last option is what he is doing right now, he can search out all the details and put his system together like many others have done. So what ever you choose freind I hope you the best and that you are satisfied and happy with it.

LCE website says that the supercharger won't work with an underdrive pulley and electric fans. And to go turbo, you'd have to get rid of your LCE headers. So it sounds like you're gonna have to undo some of your upgrades if you want to go boosted in either path

Yes I have read that and know about it. But an underdrive will only lower the boost psi. You can adjust with different pulley sizes. A smaller blower pulley will get the boost back up. The electric fan they use is flex a lite and has a shroud that probably doesnt fit the supercharger or something I'm guessing, my fans are more compact and closer to the radiator so it has more clearance. Just because LCE says it doesnt mean you can't do it.

It really comes down to money! Is it worth the big cheese to spend on the boost setups. 3rz superchargers aren't very common on here.

I put a new 3RZ from yotatech in mine after I dropped a valve. The LCE stuff is pretty nice but its pricey. You could save up and buy bits and piece off of this site but it would take you a year or two. The V6 SC's are traded a lot more.
