Lots of things you can learn about your Taco, but may have missed.

Today at the dealer my service rep. and I talked about the high theft rate and how thieves are accessing the vehicles through the fob you left near your door at your home.
So turn the remote fob off.
WHAT?! I didn't know you could do that.
Hold the lock button and tap the unlock twice. The light will blink 4 times and it is off.
Just wake it up when you tap the unlock in the morning when you get in the truck. Simple.
    FU thieves!

Ok someone else have weird trick they know about the trucks, let us know.
Also hope there isn't already a similar thread....Simpson's did it.

If you push the unlock button twice it will self arm itself after a few minutes. I learned that when it locked me out ...lol

Just wait until you find the Taco Truck easter egg, and then find out that the guy that made it actually posted about it.

And if you actually read your owner’s manual you will discover that your taco has an electric heater that starts warming the cabin immediately.

How prevalent is this method, though?
Apart from dealer gossip, has anyone ever known a truck stolen this way?

I’m guessing theft by flat-bed is much more common.

I've seen instances of it happen online. Someone posted a Ring camera video, on Reddit, of a guy coming to his door in the middle of the night with some kind of box with an antenna on it, waving it around the porch and front window/door area for a minute, and then leaving. People pointed out it an RF signal detector of some kind, and that he was searching for the signal from the key to read the code, then it would relay to another guy near the vehicle, with another device that would clone the signal and trick the keyless entry and start button, then they just open the door, start the vehicle and drive away.

My moms neighbor had something similar happen. A security camera from another neighbor caught two guys walk up to their door, then back to the car, open the car door, and drive away.

There's numerous articles and stories out there about this technique, its pretty easy to pull off with the right equipment.

I don't know anyone personally (besides my moms neighbor, who I don't actually know myself...) that this has happened to, but I also don't know anyone personally who has had their car stolen at all. But that doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

I had a friend who's Mazda CX-3 was stolen by thieves using a fob scanner. He even got it on security cam. The door unlocked almost instantly and it took less than 30 seconds for them to get the motor started.

After you cut the engine, you still have accessory power to lower windows for a while after that. Once you open the door, the power is shut off.

Don’t you guys have garages? I would think in Canada most homes would with the cold winters.

There is apparently a tailpipe fetish out there. That wasn't a primary reason for my pre-axle dump, but it certainly is a nice side benefit.

My 13’ 4R does it. I think it gives you somewhere around 30 seconds to open the door. Maybe I’m wrong, but I think you can choose 60 seconds in the HU.

I live in So.Cal. which is known for being a hot spot for car theft (several years ago my work truck was stolen from in front of where I was living at the time) yet I never hear any reports about thieves using anything like this.

Does it happen? Sure, but at least in my area it doesn't seem to be as prevalent as people think.
