List your mods. Call insurance with list and value. Pay them extra and you will get your money back in the event of a theft. Just has to be documented.

    +1

I have this, works very well. Nice being able to open the app and see the map that shows exactly where my Taco is.

Geez, that's a lot of effort to steal a Taco.

I know most high-end sports cars get stolen because they can be shipped overseas or used as "cheap" track cars. I don't think it's worth that much effort to steal a Taco. I think opportunity would be the only motivation. That said, it would be hard to steal the newer Toyotas due to the smart keys and such. I think your parking choices would make the largest difference, but I also think the OEM tracking service would be sufficient.

Reminds me of a story. One of my old buddies had an old Ranger he would park in front of our apartment complex. One night someone tried to steal it by taking a screwdriver to the door and ripping out all the wiring under the steering wheel to "hotwire it". The criminal gave up and slashed up his interior instead. Funny thing was, the car would start if you took a screwdriver to the ignition. Most carjackers are not that smart. There's a reason why old Civics are the most stolen car. Of course, there are some that can steal "anything", but you would be screwed either way.

Also, fun fact: That same OEM tracking service that comes with the new Tacos can also be used to reduce your car insurance.

    As someone else already suggested:

SPOT Trace offers advanced tracking for anything. Instantly receive a text or email when your most valuable assets move or follow them on SPOT Mapping in near real-time from your smartphone, computer or tablet. Because SPOT Trace uses 100% satellite technology, it can communicate anytime from some of the most remote locations around the world

I've used Spot tracking (not trace) and I believe it needs line of sight visibility to the satellite(s) meaning that it is useless if the antenna is covered..like what you might find in a parking garage or maybe even a trailer. The Globalstar network they use covers about 80% of the earth, so unless you are in the ocean somewhere, you will most likely be able to follow the asset, assuming Joe Lunchbox took it for a joy ride. The big issue of course is a pro (isn't it always?) with a $50 sweeper: They scan the car, find the tracker on the vehicle and remove it. Usually they just stick it on another car ;-)

I have my spot trace hard wired to the battery hidden in the center console. Still tracks correctly. I’ve had the service since 2015. No issues.

We use similar devices for motorcycle rallies and such to track our positions. I’d check out US Fleet (https://www.usfleettracking.com/). It’s what a few of the rallies use, and at least two cannonball records used them to prove their trip times.
