Welcome man! Google Maps shows you a little further west than most of us, but you're closer to Rausch than a lot of us... And I think you're near a place called Wolf something or other. Someone just posted in NE Wheeling Trip Plans saying there's a tiny chance they'll be at Rausch next weekend

Tell us about yourself, any experience wheeling? Any mods?

If you're thinking of Wolf Springs, it's still 2+ hours away. And it's a pretty small place.

Bainbridge is pretty close to BHM, though. They've still been wheeling through the winter there. But I probably won't go back until there's less snow.

Only experience I have had was back when I lived in California. Hitting washboards and hitting the dirt in my old 92 Pickup which I sold when I had kids. Finally got back into a toyota truck and have been itching to do shit.

No mods as of yet. Looking to prob do a 3 inch emu lift before the Rausch toyota day in july

Figured I’d introduce myself over in this thread. I’m new to the Tacoma/off-road/truck scene, but eager to meet some new people and start to learn.

I recently picked up a 19 TRD-Pro to be my DD/hauler for my other vehicle to track events, and have quickly fallen in love with the community and idea of modding and wheeling in these trucks.

I am over in Gardiner, near New Paltz, and hoping this season to participate in some meet ups!

How much weight are you towing? Honestly a Tacoma wouldn't be my choice for anything over a few thousand pounds. But now that you're committed, maybe take a look here for some tips: https://www.tacomaworld.com/forums/towing.34/

I know it’s not absolutely ideal, but I’ll likely only be towing a handful of times a year, no more than 4 hours away. I have a little Cayman that I just want to be able to tow to the track with race tires on it. I couldn’t stand the idea of a full size truck so I landed on the Tacoma!

Welcome! I end up going through New Paltz a couple times a month for work. I’ll keep an eye out. Look into a set of airbags for towing. They make a huge difference and when the truck isn’t squatting hard it drives better mentally.

Huge amounts of the Tacoma community came from the car community. You own a crappy Civic or VW at 18, get an STI or BMW when you get older and start making real money. Then by 30-35 you have a house and are sick of tickets / repairs so you buy a Tacoma. “I’m not gonna mod it. It’s gonna be nice, comfortable, stock and reliable”. Then a leveling kit and some lights. Then you may as well see what it can do on dirt...

I'm in Gardiner too and tow a 22' hybrid TT with my 2nd gen DCLB (2010 Speedway Blue with a lift which you probably see around town). 3700+# dry. I have airbags and have done a bunch of other stuff to help the tow and monitor trans temps. Be glad to catch up at some point and discuss. Welcome to TW! @Sasquatchtaco - looks like we can pull off a Mid HV meet up (post Covid crap of course)

I would love that! I think I have seen you around town! Keep an eye out for for a Voodoo Pro with a snorkel haha. And you’ve probably seen me in my little chalk Porsche Cayman before this!

Looks that way. Where were you? I know a guy who has the same truck, with black cap (instead of my MGM) and racks. Only difference is I have the lift. We pass each other almost daily in opposite directions.

Who would be up for a meet and greet (probably no wheeling :( ) mainly to welcome new members, decide on a logo, and plan a few up coming events? Probably would schedule it for mid March.

Good run today with @Checkers10160 @JDUB-Fabrication @Brownmatthall Bobby (not sure of your user name) and Joe from Southern VT Offroad Assoc w/ his fully locked Taco on 35s. Trail was very passable, but off the packed snow it was 2+ feet of water logged snow that would suck you in and and burry you to the frame. Stick a tire in it and it ate your truck. Just past the dam Matt went slightly off, had to get dragged back. Joel got stuck dragging him back, I got stuck dragging Joel back, Chess pulled me back and got stuck. We went back and forth for about two hours trading stuck status up and down the line. Joe blew the bead off his tire getting dragged sideways. BTW, Chess’s ARB kinetic strap is the tits. I’m buying one.

We also had a SXS come flying down the trail while Matt was getting pulled out and ate the ditch. He nearly flipped it and bent the snit out of his control arms. While we were trying to pull him out we had a group of SXS come through. Each one told me we would never make it through.
