I really don't want to come off as condescending or overly negative, but I don't think I would rely on those brackets in a vehicle accident. I don't think you should either. Seriously.

Yes sir, no disrespect meant at all, but that is 160 lbs at 60mph. Those are not going to handle that force, and then will increase the effective mass of the object deceleration (i.e. you) by the mass of the seat, and induce a rotation around the front seat mount, that was never accounted for in toyotas crash calculators.

Maybe consider another path to the same result?

I made my own out of Bubinga wood, it's harder than aluminum and cheaper. Honestly, I got some shit from doing it, but just remind people a lot of your truck is held together with plastic and 1/16" sheet metal.

Well you are welcome to injure yourself however you like. It is your body and your truck. I would be remiss if I didn't speak up about the shortcomings of the spacer in the OP. If he had used solid steel for the spacer with properly sized and hardness bolts their wouldn't be any issue.

The hollow tube and tiny welds to not scream safety in any form.

It would just be the weight of the seat trying to break the bracket in a head on crash. The drivers weight is going to be stopped from going forward by the seat belt. Those brackets could be stronger but I don’t see where there would be much force on them in a crash.

Edit: I now see that the buckle end of the seat belt is attached to the seat frame. I would not recommend this mod.

Yeah not sure about that one. Guessing you haven’t done much with physics. Driver and seat will end up moving forward. Hate to think about a hit from behind.

The male tab isn't attached to the seat. The female seat belt buckle, I think is attached to the seat, I could be wrong.

Your are correct. It’s attached to the seat.

that weld is gone during a crash. A solid one piece design would be better

A body in motion wants to remain in motion, or words to that effect, the same basic principle that means you can't jump up at the last millisecond before the runaway elevator you're in hits the ground, to save your life (With no disrespect intended to Mr. Otis).

I would also check with your insurance company; it strikes me as this might count as an "unapproved modification to critical vehicle safety systems" and cause you problems should you be involved in an accident in which you, or whomever is driving your truck, are injured.

Ok, ok. Let’s stop being nice. Take that piece of shit of an idea off before you get your face destroyed.

That's pretty sketchy. Your choice, just please warn anyone else, before they ride in that seat. "Just so you know, if theres an accident, or if you even hit the brakes hard, you won't be attached to the truck anymore"

On the other hand, a workable solution could easily be fabricated with 1" of 1 1/4" solid aluminum square stock and Grade 8 bolts; that would actually probably be safe(r) (Likely still not going to win you any favours with your insurance company in the event of an accident, but at least it will keep the seat attached to the truck).

You're always taking a risk with a mod like this, but I'd venture to say if your seat was still attached, the insurance company won't fuss with you much.
