Did I damage my truck

    New member here,

To make a long story short, I accidentally backed over a really strong steel platform ladder. It managed to wedge itself under the truck, seemingly stuck under the spare tire from what I could tell. I tried to drop the spare, hoping it would come out, but no luck. The ladder was wedged under there tight.

    Under the rear left tire.

So, I called AAA. Dude shows up in a flatbed tow truck, and positions some kind of horizontal bar directly under my hitch. He lifts up the rear of the truck a couple inches by the hoisting up the bar under the hitch, and I pull out the ladder.

I asked him if this could have damaged my hitch, and he said no, if the hitch is strong enough to tow, it is strong enough for that. I just wanted a second opinion from the experts here if my hitch is still good, and if the ladder could have damaged anything under the truck. I don't notice any leaking fluids. I drove around the block and it seems to drive just fine.

    Thanks.

Nah your good. The hitch is very strong, and most of the parts you hit with the stool are designed to hold the truck up and take the full load of the truck smashing down on them.

As long as no fluids are leaking, or lights on in the dash your good to go.

The hitch is is strong enough to recover the vehicle from. It can be used as a jack point as well. Should be no problem at all to lift the truck by the hitch.

Jack up the truck and do a good inspection of everything if it will make you feel better . I would say from the pictures that all is good .

    How's the ladder ?

    Doubtful...
I ran over my sons stroller.... he wasn't in it at the time. I put the stroller in front of my truck, pulled him out if it and put him the car seat. I was parked on the street, no room behind the truck and the street was to narrow to have my door open with the stroller in the way. He was throwing a small tantrum, I shut his door. I opened the driver door, jumped and started the truck. As I pulled away from the curb..... all I heard was crunch.
    no damage to the truck.

Well, I have to say that you made a very memorable first post!
    The hitch should be fine.

You're fine. A little bit of muscle with a hammer or a quick hit with a sawzall would've had the truck on it's way in a couple minutes.

You're good. I wouldn't worry about it. Just listen for any weird noises. I think it would take more than that to stop a Tacoma.

    An important thing to note.

OP you should be fine. I bet all you did was scratch some paint on your under carriage. Can't hurt to have a quick look though.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
Looks like a short step stool.
Given that the top of it was made of plastic, you probably could have driven forward and mashed it up without incurring any damage to the spring mount or frame, other than some paint scars.
I'd check for paint scars, damage to the leaf spring clips, touch it up with some black paint where necessary.
Lifting it by the tow hitch is, like others have noted, inconsequential.
Move on, don't worry, be happy!

There I was sitting on my trusty steel platform ladder behind a random 3rd Gen, looking underneath to solve that age-old question; how big of a tire can I fit under a stock truck without rubbing when the goddamn thing starts backing up. I barely made it out alive.

I'd demand AAA buy it back as well as Toyota.
