Anyone want to guess at this one? Aside from the UCA bushings (I think) that I just replaced last year making horrible noises, this creaking sound developed yesterday. I'm not even sure I'd call it creaking. It's a tough sound to describe. Only seems to occur on the highway past 60mph. 50mph, no problem. Thought my wheel was going to fall off the first time it started. But I don't feel anything in the pedals, steering wheel, seat, etc. Only audible. Can't figure it out.
Could this the same suspension noise I'm getting on the local streets under 20mph, just amplified once it hits a higher speed? It also comes and goes. Isn't always there.
I'm going to pull the UCA's and regrease them once again. The design doesnt allow for the zerks to inject any grease. I tried again today. removed the bolt, and the grease just pushes the bushings out. Doesn't flow out the gaps between the bushing and the metal sleeve.
I did swap wheel bearings. But they feel smooth. Spinning them w/ the front jacked up produces no strange noises or feeling. Everything is definitely tight, too. I always double check that things are torqued to spec.

    Any other suggestions are appreciated.

    I don’t have any idea.
Can you get it to make any noises by bouncing up and down on the truck in various places?

    Possible:
Look at and check the cat heat shield the one under drivers floor as a clamp and 2 bolts always fail and vibrates.
Many cheapo tin shields under the exhaust also where holes get bigger and mounting washers/small bolts don't hold so bigger washers needed.

Been practically jumping on the front end for 2 days lol. The only sound I can recreate is the low speed creaking, which isn't captured in the video here and why I think the bushings need to be removed and greased.

This sound is so strange. Even at highway speeds, it won't do it until I'm on the highway for like 10 minutes. Then it'll start and gradually get worse the longer I'm on the highway.
So to me, that could possible mean something is either heating up from the increased rotational speeds or under (extended) pressure from the headwinds. So I checked the Redline hood struts. Can't recreate it. After coming to a stop off the highway, I've felt around for excessive temperatures. No heat is built up at the wheel, hub, or cv.
The sound definitely appears to be from the driver's front side though.

im not familiar with the down south control arms, but are they like the total chaos arms where total chaos advises to loosen the upper control arm bolt before greasing them and then tighten back up after?
with the total chaos arms, if you just add grease without loosening the bolt it will mess up the bushings
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xvMdAX2uybs

the sounds in your video sound like upper control arms noises, I have had those same type sounds as well and they all went away when I replaced with new parts

maybe try loosening, but not removing, the bolt

That sounds like a heat shield rattle and not a creak.

Hoping you're right! I guess what is confusing me is that it takes time at 60+ speed before it starts making noise then progressively gets worse to what you hear in the vid. Silent for the first 10 minutes on the highway.

As for the bushings, yes, same deal. YEsterday I loosened up the drive side UCA bolt. All it did was push the outer bushings out to where I had loosened the bolt to. Since I didn't feel like pulling the arms off yesterday, I removed the grease zerk to relieve the pressure and pull the bushings back in.
The grease should, in theory, push out between the metal sleeve and the valleys in the bushings. But it doesnt. Maybe a poor design, I dont know. Seems like those valleys need to be deeper for the grease to flow from inside the arm.

for the north east climate and pavement driving that my truck sees more often than not, I have really started to dislike poly bushings (uniballs as well for that matter)

after having experienced poly bushing noises with a number of different upper arms, i recently put in the new version of the spc arms with their xaxis bushings and have so far been very pleased with the results

im no scientist or engineer, but without researching this, I suspect poly bushings are effected by temp changes more so than rubber bushings and this could lead to unpleasant sounds/results at times

i pulled this image off google, kinda helps explain my point of view, i used to change out all my bushings in favor of poly but now not as much

Yea, I'm with ya on this. I'm ok with some minor noises. But the ones when it sounds like my front end is going to separate or collapse from the truck, especially on the highway, I'm not good with it. We're gonna get dumped on with rain over the next 24 hours and I don't have a garage so I'm going to pull the UCA's this week and check for loose heat shields.

in the event you decide you want to change arms because of the poly bushings, I would highly consider the new spc arms specifically because of these xaxis bushings, below is a little video from spc, I am starting to believe this is the best style bushing for the typical north east daily driven tacoma / weekend warrior

(i know a lot of people on TW promote the spc arms due to the caster adjustment, but that was not my selling point)

I had this exact problem a few months back! Would happen intermittently at highway speeds, probably once every 20 minutes. Hasn’t happened since, couldn’t tell ya how:notsure: Be sure and give us an update if you find the cause.

interesting. Did you do any work to the truck before the noise started?
I love when a problem fixes itself!

Nope it just came and it went. The only observation I could come up with was that it seemed to start whenever I’d drive over a dip in the high way. Now that y’all point it out, I think a heat shield rattle could have very likely been the suspect.
