I just took my mom for her second vaccine shot today, dad isn’t getting his till the end of March. Unfortunately I’m one of those essential workers that fall into the 1C category, so I won’t be seeing a vaccine for a while, but I would be fine going without a mask around them once they are vaccinated. I just hope they agree with my thoughts on that, otherwise it may be mid summer or later before I see a vaccine. COVID-19 sucks!

Good morning fellow Pennsyltuckyvanians!! Turned out to be a beautiful day yesterday. Rain on the way today which will melt most of the remaining snow. I am ready for spring.

Seeing the pictures of the old station wagons reminded me of the cars I grew up with in our family. My Dad was always finding new cars but the one I remember most was his 1960 Rambler station wagon - pink. It was an awesome car.

    Pink Rambler.jpg

His next car after that was a Fairlane 500 - the first car I ever drove at 100 mph. My mom started driving about that same time and bought a '66 Mustang coupe. I ended up getting that car when she bought a '71 Mustang. I also had a '70 Mustang Boss 302 fastback right before we got married. Once our son came along, that car got sold and we kept Lynn's car.....which leads me into the Subaru discussion.

Lynn's Dad bought one of the first Subarus sold here in northeast PA in 1969 - ultimately bought stock in Subaru and put several kids through college and graduate/medical school on the gains. When I met Lynn, she was driving a '73 4 door coupe. We drove that after we got married and our son was born until I joined Army ROTC in '76 and began getting a $100/month stipend. We needed more room so we bought a '76 Subaru 4WD wagon - the first year the offered a 4WD version. No hub lock-outs, you shifted into 4WD using a lever by the shifter.

    1976 Subaru Front.jpg 1976 Subaru Side.jpg

Lynn was one of 8 kids and each one got a Subaru when they got their driver's license. Between us all, we've owned well over 50 Subarus since her Dad's first one. Lynn and I have owned the sedan, 2 4WD wagons, a Brat, a Baja, a Tribeca and numerous Outbacks. When I was provided a car when I joined Lackawanna College, I opted for an Outback because of their snow performance given where we live. They are Lynn's choice of cars - she's driving a 2019 Outback now. They have been solid maintenance-wise with few problems - Outbacks seem to need a new head gasket every 90k miles or so but otherwise have been problem-free for us other than normal wear and tear.

I've owned some awesome cars over the years...and a few turkeys...like my '78 Mustang Fastback T-bar convertible. One of my favorites was this 1980 Saab 900 Turbo I bought new in Germany. That sucker would sing while turning 120 miles an hour on the German autobahns.

    Saab.jpg

When we went back to Germany in '94-'97 I bought a first-year '96 BMW Z3. Still pushing it through the corners and it is, beyond doubt, the most fun car to drive I've ever owned.

Those pictures are buried in old slides I think. It looked exactly like this. The t-bar roofs leaked from day 1 like sieves and within a year, the transmission mounts were worn so that every time I went over a bump you could hear the change in pitch as the driveshaft moved. I sold it in Germany when I bought the Saab. It was only two years old and the day before I was supposed to turn it over to the new owner, the water pump went out. Luckily, I was able to find one and replaced it in the parking lot of the apartment where we lived. Total '70s crap.

Somewhere I have pictures of my '66 Mustang Coupe but don't have any of the '70 Boss 302. The '66 was originally copper with a black roof and black interior. I repainted it yellow after I got it. The '70 was yellow with black stripes and interior. My first car, though, was a '63 Ford Falcon convertible - light blue with a white top and white interior. Fun times.

Good Morning PA folks. All the wife and I have had an assortment of cars. My first car was a 61 Chevy Impala 2 door coupe. When that got tired bought a 66 Mustang. Loved that car but when our son came, no more fun cars. Family cars after that. Wife almost cried when we got our first station wagon because she thought the life of young and carefree being over and she would be the "Moms Taxi" service. All the years she got the new wagons and vans, I drove slum sleds, ghetto cruisers, and the occassional belch fire(names my BIL gave my cars) because working in Philly I didnt want to take anything nice to work. Then switched to pick_us and had 4 of them (all used) until I bought the 2007 Tacoma. Now I am waiting for my next Tacoma to come in to the dealer. I have really only loved 4 of the many vehicles I have owned and one was my 64 Ford Econoline Bell Telephone van. Bought it used and used it as as a DD. Put over a 100K on it and it had close to that when I bought it. Those were the days.
Have a great day folks and be safe as well as careful.

Between my three vehicles I’m 1/2 Subaru and 1/2 Toyota. The Ascent is 100% Subaru, the FRS is a mutt of both Subaru and Toyota engineering & parts, and the Tacoma is obviously all Toyota. :D

I will say that the FRS is really more Subaru than Toyota in reality. It’s manufactured by Subaru and the main portion of the design that’s Toyota is the fuel injection system,
    Transmission, and differential.
