Put some of Lincoln`s welders side by side with Vulcan machines with the covers off .

One might think they are built on the same line.

    So why not welding hoods.

It wouldn’t surprise me if nearly all welders are made by the same few people, I think this is pretty common among the manufacturing spectrum. I heard a while back that nearly all roll away tool boxes are made by two different companies, just badged differently based on who’s selling them. Snap-on tool boxes are the exception since they make all their own boxes.

My friend said it looks like it came out of the same mold as his old Hobart hood. I'm sure everyones got a hand in the same jar of parts.

I saw a YouTube review at one point which directly compared the Vulcan helmet to the Lincoln ones.

Great deal of similarity, but there were also differences in the panel controls and such.

    https://youtu.be/bXs4iAz9Sqg

I ended up just biting the bullet and buying a 3350 from BakersGas using a $25 off $100 purchase coupon from signing up for their emails. Nothing against the HF / Vulcan stuff, I just figured for me the difference was worth not wondering any what-if's in the future.

I finally got back to playing with my home built plasma table. This is a big step for this knuckle dragger!

CNC is addictive. Once you get good it's such a timesaver. Do you have a thread on the build somewhere?

Did you look on Craigslist at all? I found a giant vice from the 1940’s for $150. Made in Chicago and still kicking to this day. Food for thought if you ever need to buy another one.

I did, didn't see anything that really seemed much better at the moment.

Hard to beat old stuff though, if it survived this long, its probably good.

This one gets good reviews and was $215 at northern tool, and in stock.

Can I weld my bumper while it’s attached to my truck? I just want to tack my tubing to the plate bumper. Take off the negative terminal?

    Sure.

I usually pull the negative, but I'm not certain that it's not an old wives tale.

I used to pull the negative terminal every time I welded on a truck. After talking to some buddies that never did it I finally stopped. Been leaving the negative connected for a couple years now and haven’t had a single problem. I’d probably pull it for an older vehicle but no worries on modern trucks.

Anyone in the LA area know how to fix or can use parts from this Miller maxstar 150? Looking to pay it forward unless you want to help me fix it. It won’t turn on after I got it back from a friend that borrowed it. I might keep the ground clamp for my mig

ENDED UP PUTTING IT ON OFFERUP AND ITS GONE SINCE NO TW MEMBER WANTS IT FOR FREE

No build thread, yet. I've been dropping random posts in my zero turn mower thread.

I hope to do a complete build thread when I get this thing dialed in.

Still need to incorporate the plasma torch...the settings and wiring are intimidating me. Hopefully tomorrow ican tie into the plasma wiring and hook up my controller relay.

Torch height ilcontrol is on the sched, but will be awhile.

    Dabbed up a torch holder.

Not even sure if I can get a machine head for it or not.
