Brightest, clearest, focused headlight bulb upgrade?!

All the info is in this thread, even though it is written for 2nd Gen the same things apply for 1st Gen as they both use 9003/H4 in reflector housings. The one difference is the 1st Gen is usually ground switched vs 2nd Gen is power/conventionally switched, so if going with the high wattage option you need the correct corresponding harness.

1) The brightest option will be the Osram 100/90w SuperBrights (use coupon code) with the Headlight Services ground switched harness. These will also give you a massive boost in high beam output. Similar in color to stock.
2) Best plug and play option without the harness is the

ARB 4X41 IPF Clear 12V 80W/60W Fatboy H4 Bulb - Pair

IPF Fatboy 60/80w super low bulbs. These run 80w low beam for a big bump in output but stock high beam, so they don't need a harness, but they are very expensive for bulbs. Similar in color to stock.
3) Best stock wattage low beam is the Philips Racing Vision (use coupon code), but they coat the high beam filament in a blue coating, so high beam performance is worse than stock. Whitest high performance bulb option, but they are still halogen color.
4) Best stock wattage option without reducing high beam performance is the

Tungsram Nighthawk Xenon +120. Low beam isn't as good as the Philips Racing Vision, but high beam isn't reduced. Whiter than options 1 and 2, but not as white as 3.

Items are listed in order of low beam improvement, 1 being best improvement. Adding the harness will boost performance of all halogen bulbs, but it is required to run the 100/90w Superbrights.

 

I've been reading a lot about 9003/ H4 lights, looking for a noticeable improvement without changing housings or rewiring anything. I'm looking for longer brighter lighting on Hi & OEM Lo is fine as I've never wanted to blind the folks I'm meeting on the Hwy. What looks good just from the reading, haven't heard from folks who have tried them, is the Osram Night Breaker Laser or the Phillips Racing Vision GT200. Brighter, whiter, longer beam s & still a 60/55 light. Drawback lifespan is less than regular 60/55 lights. I Have considered a 100/55 available for off road use only but they require a HD wiring harness & possibly a new housing as the 100W would emit way more heat than the 60W OEM. Any input from anybody that have used these would be great.

The thread is kept constantly updated by our resident lighting expert @crashnburn80. Truth be told, you will be able to get somewhat better lighting out of a stock wattage bulb as detailed in the thread. If you want significantly improved lighting, you'll want to do the full upgrade with the harness. I started with a simple bulb upgrade, but ended up going the full boogie route and trust me, the results were awesome and nobody flashed me. And you do not need new housings.

 

Or, if you want to go no-holds-barred peak performance AND increase bulb longevity, consider a professional RX350 HID projector retrofit. It’ll cost you 10 times what the aforementioned “ultimate headlight upgrade” will run, but it’s a huge improvement.
