Joshua Tree? just go to your local park, it’s closer and there’s less hipsters, same amount of offroading

He hasn't lied about anything, just fitting and driving on the road serves up the purpose for many. We have to consider the source, YouTube used to be kind of cool, now it has turned into a shit show, not just the posters, but the way you can't just cruise the site anymore.

The rubbing sound when backing out your driveway is insane on 285's let alone not lifted or aligned.

My wife like many would question it everytime it happens.

Those are back packs and pylons, not speed bumps. You need a front cam.

What you don't get, is the tires really don't fit.... he will rub massively going into the gas station's uphill dipped entrance with a turn.

I never said anything about them fitting. My point is people are just getting too bent out of shape about that. If/when they rub, he'll figure it out eventually, all part of learning

I install fun parts on Toyotas for a living, as well as do real mods on Toyotas that involve plasma cutters and welders. I actually made a thread, wrote a blog and (roll eyes here) made a video about this topic because we got asked so many times about it, and there was so much misinformation online. In the video, I pulled the coils off of the shock to cycle the suspension properly and demonstrate the actual effects of a lift on ifs. I also put on the stock wheel and cycle, as well as a 35 and cycle. I have now tubbed my personal truck for 37s, but haven't made a video about it yet.

    Link to thread is here:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/the-definitive-what-tire-fits-what-lift-answer-hopefully.688255/

If you want I can post the video here in this thread, but don't want to push my YouTube channel :p

285s are really close to fitting with out too many mods depending on wheel specs. The OP probably doesn't rub much driving around town with his setup, especially cuz BFG tend to run small anyway. However, going over bumps etc, they are guaranteed to rub in a couple spots. I don't think it's going to destroy his truck or anything so disastrous, but hopefully somebody else doesn't see this and think that 33s will fit fine with their aftermarket wheel, or with spacers.

This is just like when we have people coming in saying that so and so fit 35s and just had to do a CMC and that's it. I have to try really hard not to roll my eyes. I've tubbed firewalls for 35s for the people that actually want them to clear. Again, wheel specs play a huge part, but without limiting travel, they will not fit period.

Yeah, I get your point and I'm not saying it's not a good idea to keep the cab mount intact, but if the frame rots through from corrosion under the engine there is no way that trimming and welding the cab mount had anything to do with the problem and warranty laws everywhere in the US protects the consumer from stuff like this without reasonable cause and effect, though they vary from state to state. Otherwise, it would be easy for companies like Toyota to deny warranty claims for all sorts of unrelated things as soon as the consumer installs a different model tire or tints the windows. Also, a warranty claim can be denied but usually the warranty is not void until the terms of the warranty expire or other very unusual circumstances allow it unless the details of the warranty specifically say conditions that would void the warranty. I have to say, I have not read the details of the Toyota warranty.
