Does it have a fuse? Too bad you're not closer, that would be fun to peek inside of if it's not something simple.

No it is not a old wives tale.

But as long as you have a Good Work Connection you should not have any problems .

It is when the welding current takes a return path through the ECM that things go wrong .

Myself I rather not have to buy a New ECM for a customers vehicle or machine .

Your own things feel free to do as you want.

Is your friend going to replace it for you??

Any idea just what was done that caused this .

Where you in the Habit of running it till it shut off on thermal overload ??

The thermisters have a tendency to fail after so many times.

I tried but couldn’t figure it out. It won’t power on now and see no beaker.

no he did not replace it. It has been years and it’s time for me to move on from it. I ended up buying another tig that can do AL and have HF start.

Not sure what happen when it was out of my possession. How much do thermisters run for?

I never take the terminals off and haven’t had any issues in any of the vehicles I’ve worked on. They say you’re supposed to pull the negative though

radio gets old after a while, stations play the same songs over and over its mind numbing. I’ll listen to AM every once in a while to break it up with talk radio or sports, but usually I use a steaming service so I don’t have to listen to rush Tom Sawyer 5 times a day

It's really more background noise. LOL. Love talk radio too. When I was a kid I listened to Larry King around midnight out in the car. My Mom would come out and drag my ass back into the house to get some sleep before school. Damn, that was a long time ago.

LMAO, I was sad to here Peart passed away, but you're right, too much. I have a great emergency radio on the way with short wave. It's nice to have some soft music in the background camping sometimes. Not always, but sometimes.

    Well,
I received my welder last week. :yay::welder:

Picked up a Hobart Handler 190. I know they aren't as refined as some of the other machines out there but I've had good luck with Hobart welders in the past and the price is much more reasonable. Spent the morning yesterday getting it all prepped and did some practice welds before burning up a set of spindles for a friend.

The machine was sent with some .030" flux core wire and electrode negative, which I was not aware of at first so the first few practice passes were not good with the .030" solid wire I was using. Once I switched polarity things went very well! No pictures though because I suck.

My first official project will be a welding cart for the new setup. I've never used flux core wire so I am thinking I'll use the roll provided with the welder and get some practice in, especially since I'm not too worried about how it comes out looking. Anyone have any tips for welding with flux core? Obviously I'll need to switch the polarity back. :cookiemonster::facepalm:

@desertjunkie760 congrats on the new toy

I've been happy with the Hobart Fabshield flux core wire the little bit I've used it.

Remember to (usually) drag flux core. Be aware it often runs a bit hotter than solid wire, so easier to burn through thinner metals.

Thanks! Very excited to get some things done with it! That's good to know. I was planning on using a thinner wall square tubing to save weight so it should be interesting.

I'm no expert, just a hobbyist who probably thinks he knows more than he really does.

So take what I say with a BIG grain of salt. LOL

Still, especially with thinner tubing (16ga) and flux core I've found it best to move around a bit to let the metal cool. i.e. weld one edge of a corner then go do another corner, etc. or for longer welds I'll stitch them so as to not overheat and blow through.

I actually replaced my shorty antenna with an OEM one for better FM reception!

We have two KILLER community radio stations here that I listen to most of the time. They operate on a donation based system similar to NPR with quarterly fund drives which also means no commercials.

2 hour programs each with a different DJ playing whatever they want to play (they even are allowed to leave the profanity in between 9pm and 6am!). CRAZY variety, one show will be local punk, bluegrass the next, then 90s gangster rap, Indian music after that, etc. They play pretty much everything but top 40.

It's really fun because you learn the lineup and which shows you can't miss so then you're like oh crap it's 4pm on a Tuesday, can't miss my show!

But they also stream everything online and archive it so you can go back and listen to old shows or look at the lineup to figure out what/who that awesome song you never heard was.

    https://xray.fm/

    https://kboo.fm/

Most radio sucks but luckily the art of DJing isn't totally dead!
