    Hello Taco tribe

I’m currently shopping for a truck. I’ve owned two in the past, a lilac steel 97’ access cab (my no. 1 all time favorite vehicle) and a 00’ access cab. My 97 was a bare bones 4cyl steel wheels bone stock with the exception of a Leer cap and custom rack system for my hang glider. I drove the wheels off this truck. I don’t know how many times I drove it cross country. Absolutely awesome rig. Sadly, it was stolen. When the truck was recovered it had been driven over an embankment with a brick on the gas pedal. The ass end was in the air with the motor running at redline for who knows how long. The motor was so hot that all the hoses were cooked and blackened. She never blew up!! The insurance fixed the dashboard and dents but wouldn’t do anything about the motor because it was still running fine. Well, long story longer I didn’t feel comfortable doing long trips not knowing what the future would hold so I traded it in for the 2000 Taco but I never bonded with that truck the way I did with my 97’.
My hope it to find another Tacoma that I can bond with. My budget is a little tight so I’m definitely looking at used rigs under $25k. I’d love another 4cyl 5 speed but I’m not seeing many. The only 5 speeds I’m seeing are V6’s. I’m not sure I want a 4cyl auto. MPG is a factor for me so I’m wondering what the V6/5speed is getting for mpg with conservative tires. My plan is to keep it pretty stock and save my $$ for road trips. Looking forward to some good info on my favorite rig.
