OK, here is the wiring diagram for the Ford overhead console (that includes an outside-temperature display). As you can see, there is an input from the Vehicle Speed Sensor (speedometer). Why would this be necessary if not to compensate for the effect of airflow (aka "wind chill factor")? DSC_0382a.jpg DSC_0384a.jpg DSC_0378a.jpg

It's more likely to serve a purpose for the compass. Possibly changing the filtering at speed, only calibrating below/above a particular speed, etc.

Yep, looks like one potential function is to prevent heat-soak from a hot engine when not moving. And also to trigger more frequent updates of the compass.

    Neither of which is "windchill".

What happened to it being too much trouble to get that out? ;)

Why do you not believe that there is no such thing as wind chill factor, or anything like it, for a thermocouple? Wind doesn't change the temperature of the air. No matter how fast it is moving, or you are moving through it, it's still just the temperature that it is. It doesn't get colder outside when you drive faster.

No, the compass is entirely self-contained within the module (uses no outside sensors). The compass reads correctly with the truck parked and the engine off.
