F it - anyone have one, hard soft roll up tri fold, etc I can borrow? I'm doing a road trip in a few weeks, I do know the bed would be nice to have more relatively dry storage space (IE Dog food container, etc) instead of just the cab. Would be nice to have a dry run

Also looking for a gen 3 air dam if anyone ripped one off a SR/SR5/Sport, if anyone has one let me know - I'm doing 7k miles on the road in March with little to no off roading. I might want to look at getting one that is easy on/easy off I can work on to allow that for these trips.

    Cheers!

I'd lend you mine, but its a Diamondback HD with the side boxes, and it's going to have a bed rack on it really soon. So I don't think it will help your mileage at all...

I still have my air dam on... I use it to gauge the snow piles when parking, lol.

No worries. The cover isn't a concern for MPG - in fact, a cover is worse than no cover (thanks Mythbusters!) I'm just trying to make sure I have enough storage space. Tonight I'm (hopefully) getting my new cooler (downsizing from a 52qt Ozark Trail to a 26, it's just me!), I just need to start setting up the sleeping bags/blankets/etc. I think tonight doing the plywood topper will be a bit ambitious, I need to adjust the PVC frame a smidge too I think before I get that (it's a bit shoehorned in at the front). But once I get the plywood topper secured to the PVC frame, I can start planning my storage.

Alright, I'm getting a tad confused. You are making a plywood topper for what now? Like a sleeping platform?

Well, if the cover and bed rack will add up to 250+lbs of extra weight, I think it would be a concern for MPGs. Also, I can't actually lend you mine, I just re-read what you needed, and I have a LB, so there goes that idea.

    Yup.

except I built a PVC frame to drop in. It's about 6' long right now, need to get the plywood on top of it and carpeted, then secured and then I'll have the storage under there.

This is my alternative to a RTT - way less conspicuous at a rest stop off the highway  and in theory, about just as much effort to put the cab back together as it would be to take RTT on/off (with my current garage situation). AND when I show up and it's raining, my campsite is all done and set up and dry.

Wife has a car for if we need to go anywhere together (and it's a fancy inbred so gets 40mpg so we take that anyway....), and she hates camping/truck camping, so it's just me and the dog. If she was in for it I don't think we'd have an option other than a 6ft bed w/ topper or RTT, but for going at it solo - I'm hoping it works out well, I am very optimistic!

Welcome to TW Brandon. Just an FYI, don't go selling your rims on here yet, since you do not meet the BST requirements for it.
If you don't be careful, your post will be removed and you will be banned for a few days because of it. So I would remove this post for now until you get 50 posts.

I dunno yet. I’m wanting it basically just for this trip but I think I can make due without. This will be about 13 days and 7K miles, others will be a lot shorter and potentially (mostly) contain a mountain bike - so not much room for a cover in that scenario anyway. Just setting myself a budget if I find one for 200 before the trip I’ll probably jump on it.

I just got my hopes up for a minute there so I did some searching on here. They mount the same, but the 3G has a hump that allows for the change in rear cab vent design. Fuuuu. Thanks anyways.
