People buy stuff like this because they dont want to do it them selves, and they dont plan to go offroading much. Some people just want the look, and dont care how it performs rick crawling.

I think the point the OP was making is that you can buy your own spacers AND have someone install them for you (so you don’t have to do it yourself) for much less than 5 grand.

Yes you can, you can also buy fabric and pay someone to make you a shirt... but you buy them premade dont you?

Not everyone wants to deal with stuff like that. Some people just want to get in and drive the truck. They roll it into the loan and dont care that it cost 5k.

There are plenty of things people have dealer installed at time of purchase.
Steps, bed covers, paint protection film, door sill covers, edge guards, roof racks, exhaust tips, bed steps, wheels, tires, ect. All of these things you can get better versions of for cheaper or the same price and just pay someone to install them. But 95% of people buy these trucks just to drive, not everyone who owns a tacoma is a member here who wants to mod their trucks endlessly.

Just adding some more to this. OP stated this -
"truck in showroom advertised as being lifted ..included trd rims bigger tires and predator step package with the spacers .... 5300 ..lol"

So we had wheels, tires, steps, and the spacers. Its not 5k for a spacer lift.
    OEM predator steps - $700
    trd rims - $900
    tires - $1000

Now, lets add labor onto that, its going to be 2 hours for the steps (yes I know it takes 30 minutes, but shop rate is different than how long it takes you to install something) so thats $240
    Mount and balance 4 wheels/tires - $130
    lift install - $600
    alignment - $150

total of $3720. Now you can add the dealer markup to that because they know your rolling into the loan.

You're both saying the same thing haha just two sides of the same coin.

He's essentially saying, "I don't know who would pay the thousands extra dealer markup for parts you can get cheaper" and,
You're essentially saying, "I can see how some would pay the thousands extra dealer markup for parts you can get cheaper" haha.

In many people's opinion it would be quite foolish to throw away thousands of dollars for very little inconvenience. In your opinion it's worth the extra thousands to not have to order the parts, wait on them, and drive them to your mechanic and wait a few hours to save thousands.

When and if we ever have a recession it's going to be interesting, old Tacomas selling for the same price as new and base SRs getting tarted up by the dealer with an asking price of $40k

Its not 5k for spacers, its 5k for wheels, tires, steps, and spacers. Its part of a package, not just spacers.

Oh yeah, it is a rip off, its just some people will pay the charge and get what they want right out the door already done. And I worked for a dealer for 6 years, Ive had to sell shit like this to customers.

Pretty much. There are 2 kinds of people. Those who would rather buy (or make) the part and do it their self (like me) or people who just want it done for them.
