I had to have heavy fleet put mine in a like 250 ton press. At about 80 tons it exploded and we werent able to find the cv shaft bit.

 

That’s terrifying and I love it

 

The guy running the press was hiding behind a tool box while he pressed the button

But seriously, i think everyone in the shop checked themselves for new holes ... sounded like a shotgun going off indoors.

 

That’s what I’ve heard. Did you disassemble it like I did and then just take the star to the shop?

 

Yes sir. One popped right out, the other did not. It bent the bed on a 50 ton press, so i ended up at a big rig shop

 

I pressed the new shafts in with the little hf press i have. It took substantially less force.

 

I know JB fab uses a lathe. Not entirely sure of their method but it seems way less destructive than a press. I think they get to the point that I’m at and then just lathe it away into nothing.

Unrelated, the piece I was cutting through was 2" thick and my plasma cutter is only rated for 1" severance. I'm impressed it did as well as it did.
