I recently got into a crash and f'd up my front passenger side fender panel and need to order a new one. I also destroyed the plastic fender flare. Personally I don't like the look of the flares anyway and was contemplating leaving them off. Either way I'm either going to have to color match the new panel to the imperial jade on my 2002 taco or...I could remove all of the plastic flares and patch the holes and re-paint my entire truck. If I did end up repainting it I would do a gloss black color or dark metallic gun metal color. What are your thoughts? If you have any better solutions I'm open to them. Thanks

Unless I painted the new fenders black and left the rest of the truck be?

You're really dealing with apples and oranges here. If you put on a new fender, flare, and blend your PS ft door, you're looking at $1200 (give or take) -- if you respray the whole truck a different colour, you're looking at paying MINIMUM $5000 for a half-decent job. You need to decide what kind of money you want to spend before you determine what work will get done.

I'd recommend just putting on a new fender, paint it the truck's original colour, and be done with it. Save the extra $$$ for other mods.

Thanks for the reply's. Yea 5k seems kinda steep but it also varies by location. Either way I was talking about painting it myself not paying to have it painted. I have a sprayer and am confident in my masking abilities but am just scary to make the commitment.

It's good to have the sprayer but if you do it your self just remember the out come all rest on the prep....... And I can't emphasize that enough...... Make shur you do your prep and you do it right and you take your time on it. If you do that you'll come out with a decent paint job that you can say you did your self.

    Correct

You get what you pay for, if you are going to pay only $1500 you might as get a $199.00 and pocket the change.

    Give it a shot.

No, but unless you want a crappy job you might as well just paint the fender.

I suppose we've all got different ideas of what is to be considered a "quality paint job".

In the world of automotive refinishing, you get what you pay for.

No it certainly is not, but if you think you can get a candy apple red show car painted for 5K, you're sadly mistaken.

i agree with the "you get what you pay for" 100% but theres not a snow ball chance in hell some one would pay 5000 dollars to paint there truck unless they just wanna spend money or they gonna keep it garaged all the time.........for 2000 to 2500 dollars you can have a high quality paint job that looks great.........ya you can get a 5000 dollar paint job but thats outrageous

Lost track many, many mods ago.
I got my truck completely repainted (the same color as factory) this time last year for a little under $1000 OTD. I was very please with the overall end result and the paint looks as good as it did factory. Like the others have said though, your truck your choice as to how you do it. Just my $.02 stick with the same color as factory. It just saves you the hassle of spending the extra time and money. I was thinking about changing my color to red but the guy at the shop said it would take twice to three times as long because of all the extra labor needed like removing the doors, seats, interior so on and so on... Again just my $.02.

Thanks for all the responses. After thinking about it I'm going to do one of the following..

-repaint the truck imperial jade again
    or
-buy a new panel and color match it the best i can
    or
-buy a new panel and paint both the front fenders black or line-x them

    So many options...
