Just to confirm, on 2nd gens (2015), does this light simply mean to change the oil or can it mean other things? (which could be read by an OBDII reader) I changed my oil several months ago and did not do any kind of reset.

Just an oil change reminder. Reset your light if you want it to be in sync with your oil changes.

Thanks for posting the reset instructions. I've had my baby for 7 years now and had never put enough miles on between oil changes to see the maintenance required light until last month. I might add it's only got 33k miles. Of course the dealership reset it when I got the oil changed the following week. It's nice to know in case they forget to reset it or if I ever decide to do it myself.

It is a little disconcerting seeing a maintenance reminder. Glad it's so easy to reset.

Another thank you for posting this! The last time I got an emissions test they offered to reset the light for me but for some reason I declined - going to try doing it myself today. Thanks again!

can the mileage be reset before the light comes on? like can i perform this procedure without the light being on, and have it reset the mileage counter?

I would say yes. My light has only came on twice. Both times I was nearing 5000 miles since my last oil change. All my other oil changes came with anywhere from 2500 - 3500 miles. I'm sure it was reset since the light never came on any other time. All oil changes have been performed at the dealership I bought it at. The reasons for the oil changes at 2500 - 3500 miles is due to low miles being put on the truck, 38,000 now on my 2013, and getting the oil changed at least every 6 months.

I just leave it on at this point. I do 10k changes so it's always on when it doesn't need to be. :annoyed:

I'll give it a shot today (I changed the oil quickly last night) and see if I get the "0s" on the display, I'm sure if that comes up, it reset. I'll post my results!

Some of us run synthetic to 10k, no big deal.

This is works well, assuming both the oil and filter are designed for the extended interval.

Running Amsoil with OEM Toyota filters, I change the filter (and top-off) every 5K miles; and change the oil itself (and filter) every 10K miles.

Toyota filter and Mobil1 oil, Blackstone says I could try longer oil change intervals. To each their own and what they trust.

I agree with your final point but not your premise. Unless you're having your filters tested, Blackstone's recommendations apply to only to the oil. (Totally unsurprising that Mobil 1 is capable of longer intervals.)

Longer life filters are available, but the 2013 Warranty and Maintenance Guide recommends changing OEM spec Toyota filters every 5K miles, whether using synthetic or non-synthetic oil.

Idk what Toyota filters are rated for but.. My wife doesn't care on her car.
