What is a better engine? I ask because your statement is obviously correct. A better engine is better than a not better engine.

What specific better engine are you talking about?

    ;)

    Try this: S-Mode 3 at 45mph - 55mph.

That will put your in the power band of the truck.

If you really are a speed & power freak then do this:

    S-Mode 4 at 65mph plus...

The Earth will shake with the power. Learn the features of your truck. Everything you are asking for the Toyota engineers already gave you. Use them.

Learn to use your power band.

Haha, well played. I like about 350hp/350tq in a vehicle the weight of a Tacoma, preferable forced induction as that generally means torque output is higher at a lower rpm. I'll take increased torque over increased horsepower as the torque tends to give a better driveability feel overall than just raw high rom power.

According to many Toyota fans the greatest truck in the world is a 1980 mini with only 90hp at nearly 3000lbs.

The Tacoma isn't a mini, but it is a smaller truck. In 35 years Toyota managed to get 300% more HP with 50% more weight, which is expected with a bigger truck, larger engine, more safety, etc.

I bought a brand new 1983 Toyota SR5 4x4 truck and it went to Mexico all the time surfing the Pacific Coast.

The truck was thought of as a joke to other surfers along Michoacán in their V8 Chevys & Fords.

And guess who could go across the river bed with ease and guess who every day had to pull those fat ass V8s out of the river?

The little 4 cylinder 5 speed manual 22R engine.
