I got the Meso Stage 1 kit installed and like the results. The back up light/directional modification is really neat.

That got me to thinking. Which when it comes to Tacomas can be dangerous.

Looking at the non LED DRL/front directional on my SR5, I began to wonder if a similar set up would work there. I haven't looked under the hood or even at the manual to see if what kind of regular bulb is used.

So, does anyone know if there is such a beast available?

    Thanks.

You mean just using an LED bulb in the headlight? Ya lots of people do it.

No, a dual color LED in the DRL/Directional socket. White DRL, amber directional.

I’m confused, so you’re asking about a brighter drl?

Actually more interested in the directional. Unless theres another way to get a LED directional.

I did the Stage 1 install on my 18. Possibly my favorite add-on (stock road guy here). No resistors required. It fell right into place. With additional LEDs within that circuit, I think resistors are required.

Not so sure about the front but I see your point and question.

I had to order the resisters because when the truck is in reverse and a directional is on the directional hyperflashs.

The tail light upgrade is referred to as Stage 1. Here is the description from TacomaBeast dot com. The description uses the terminology of "switchback" (as applicable) so I think this is where that term is gathered.

Yah. Switch back is one color DRL, then another color while the turn signal is blinking, then switches back after the signal switch goes to neutral

I have the stage one kit. It reroutes the directional wiring down to where the reverse light is. The LED is two color, so both the reverse light and the directional can be used at the same time.

BTW, I was a bit concerned that the kit didn't come with instructions, but it's literally plug and play. Just match the connectors, stick the LEDs in, put it all back together and off you go.

I have to take a closer look at the DRL/directional to see if it's a two filament bulb or just one. If it's two, it might be easier for someone to design a harness. In fact it might not even need a harnass.

Agree. I was just pointing out the switchback term.

I like the stage one upgrade a lot. The brighter amber turn signal is what makes me think distracted drivers will see my signal a little more readily or responsively.

Yeah switchbacks are pretty much plug and play except if you want the dim down option when headlights are on would require one tap into factory wiring.

Ahhh, okay. I should do some research to see if "switchback" is a technical term that is used in electronics. I've just never noticed it before.

I don't know that anything makes distracted drivers pay attention. Anyway, I like the entire set up.

Ronzio, what trim level do you have on your Tacoma and are those original or add on DRL/directionals?

I have a off road so the DRL’s are factory...by using switchbacks in the turn signal bulb location allows the turn signals to be used as DRL’s anytime the parking lights are on.
