Not sure what tool they had in their tool box but needless to say this person did not loose their tailgate. If it was a hose clamp the tailgate would have gone missing, then it would have turned into a recovery mission Picture #3

Worth its weight in gold. I got one last year, while I dont live in a crime area, I still sleep like a baby at night even with my tailgate down and out in the open.

But its so expensive because they know they can charge it and people will pay it because its still cheaper than a new tailgate.

That the big problem with alot of anti theft products, some thieves will move on, others will try to break something to get past it. The nice thing with the hinge lock is that most thieves will look at it and decide thats not something they are equipped to remove.

It would suck to live in a high-crime area where tailgate thefts are common and use a collar lock only to find out, constantly, that your tailgate LOCK has been ruined by asshats. That replacement cost would add up quickly I'd imagine...

I use a collar lock but keep my tailgate unlocked unless I have something worth stealing in the bed. Perhaps someone should come up with a vinyl stickon that says a collar lock is in use?

You dont have to live in a high crime area, as most thieves travel to better areas to shop.
Since I've been making the Anti theft device, I've sold more to Hawaii than any other one place, there are several options out there and some prefer some over others, they are all effective in thwarting thief's to some degree, the most different is the price range.
    Just my .02 cents, cheers

Many option for sure and just think you are saving the planet one tailgate at a time:locked: Hawaii and Puerto Rico are high theft areas as the Tacoma is the truck of choice. We have also had many go to Canada and Mexico as well.

Always a good feeling to know that you are helping others by lowering their stress levels and they like the products we make. I am totally about quality and making somethin unique and it had been fun being a part of the solution :spy:

I bought the one from scleaf and I live in Hawaii. I have both a pop-n-lock and the sabellco lock for extra measure. I tried the hose clamp deal but it was starting to scrape up the hinge area and honestly, if the tweaker really wants the tailgate, that hose clamp wasnt going to do anything if they kept pulling up on the tailgate. The Sabellco lock or the bracket from christian06 will prevent the theft. Buy once, cry once but I can leave the tailgate unlocked if i wanted and dont have to worry about the tailgate being removed. Both great options for different budgets and level of security
