This. My "bugout" tool box for if I am going off pavement or outdoor"ing". Holds all the tools I've ever needed in 38 years of towing a boat and using a boat. Waterproof. Won't rust. Neither will the tools in it. Wont mar the bed deck like a metal toolbox will. Fits out of sight behind the front seat down on the floorboard. If you need more tools than what will fit in this, you don't need a toolbox. You need a tow truck. They make a taller one too. Not big enough? Buy 2. Stackable. And another thing...I carried one of these in my T4R for 413,000 miles. It's still in there. I have never needed any of those tools, not even once.

Point being...You are driving a Toyota Tacoma for Christ's sakes! Tools in a Tacoma: worthless and unneeded as tits on a boar hog.

You started this thread to show us how you keep your toolbox in place and we all think it is a weak setup . You opened this can of tools and now you don't like the responses you are getting . Go back to the drawing boards and fix it and then see if we like it . I would start with a bed mat if that's doable for you .

cool. Idc if no one likes it. I thought it was sweet, and it works for me. I’m not the type of person to go back to a drawing board and change something because some people on the internet don’t like it. A bed mat is not going to keep a box from tipping over.

You post what is clearly an unsafe way to secure a heavy toolbox in the bed of your truck and then mock those who have tried to point out how potentially dangerous this is to you and others. You sir deserve what will eventually be heading your way!

I think your solution will work better with a tie down strap rather than a bungee because it will not stretch allowing the box to slip out from under. A minor mod to your mod.

No one really plans on going out and having to slam on the brakes for an unforeseen situation. Your idea has great intentions. But that bungee cord isn’t going to help if this said unforeseen situation happens. A cheap ratchet strap will be 1000x more secure. No one said you must secure every single thing you put in your box. But something like that should 100% be secured better. It’s your ass on the line if something happens. Not ours. But hey, you say it works . Run it. I don’t plan on getting in an accident but I still have insurance... because you know, you just might need it one day. You do you fella.

You're getting upset because people are pointing out that your idea while not bad is potentially dangerous with your current way of securing it. No one is obsessed with your safety or saying that everything needs to be secured at all times. Merely that it wouldn't hurt to use something a little stronger than an oversized rubberband to secure it in case of the worst case. Wouldn't hurt to be a little more considerate of your fellow drivers and their safety as well. Acting like an mature adult wouldn't hurt either.

Add a "you don't know me" and we've go the basic transcript for EVERY probate/parolee I've hooked.

Swallow your pride and accept the fact you are doing something dangerous. Spare us the 12 year old hot headed responses, your ego will NOT be a factor of survival during a collision in progress.

I've posted this quite a few times. Two large ammo cans fit on the wheel wells bolted to the side rails. Great for tools, recovery gear, etc. They free up the floor space and a bonus is they make two great seats when you're partying with your redneck friends in the bed of your truck.

I actually followed that and attempted to do it. I bought these little clips that slide into the rail in the bed, I have those same cans. Problem is, my camper shell is sitting to far inward and won’t allow me to attach the cans.
