'08 Tacoma Club Cab 4X4

So yesterday my 08 4.0L wouldn't shift above 3rd gear. After stopping at a gas station to search for the potential cause, it suddenly began shifting properly again, but the check engine light came on and stayed on for the remainder of the trip. Any idea what the problem might be? Fluid change about a year ago - 240,000 kms on vehicle.

It could be a lot of things.
Shifter in the wrong position.
Stuck solenoid.
Low on fluid.

Get the code read and give us some clues.
