in the video you’ll see them cutting out the outer skin, what they didn’t show is removing the outer to inner skin supports, which looks like it might be a painful task without messing up the tailgate paint.
Removing all the supports isn’t a concern to me, but what is, is it doesn’t look like that offers ANY rigidity back to the outer skin of the tailgate. So showing a video of someone standing on it, is pointless, I want to see a video showing the outer skin of the tailgate is as strong as it was before they removed the inner to outer skin bracing.

 

Ahh, gotcha! Well I would personally add expanding foam or add sound proofing layers to it to bulk up the space!
Regardless of what I would do, still a very solid question, and would love to know what the Fabricators from Huracan do as well!

Be careful on that expanding foam, people have used it on vehicles with some quite detrimental effects. once it’s been in a few years it seems to hold moisture/ condensation and rots from the inside. Remember you get a lot more moisture in a vehicle than a house. Now I’m sure it all depends on bands used and many other factors. So personally I recommend to do some research and not follow some twat on #bullshit-life that’s did it 1 month ago.

My hope would be that the fit / tolerance on that cubby would be good enough that you’re supposed to use seam sealer (or equiv) to glue it to the outer skin, as that would add way more strength than OEM. I love the idea, just hope the quality is their in the fit / tailgate integrity, not just the compartment design itself.

Dude I used to own a Jeep Wranger and they have parts galore out there for any budget.
For some reason Tacoma owners are always willing to pay a premium which inherently lets manufacturers know they can charge what they want or need for their quality products.

Finally get around to hooking up my tailgate lock I may have had sitting on a shelf for two years...

 

COOL for sure, however at $350 it's expensive for the small amount of storage it provides, especially since it's not water-tite. I won't store or even transport tools and especially not firearms anywhere that's not completely water-tite.

 

Did he drive over that panel with no hinge installed??

No go for me. The raised latches are going to catch on everything that you try to slide across the tailgate. If they were flush or recessed I'd like it much more.
