Moderators: I hope this is not in the wrong place. It’s not really a build thread, so much as a built thread.

That being said, I figured I would start documenting some of the oddities I do for people (or myself). Hopefully some people will get inspired, and maybe some will point out a better way to do it.

A lot of these aren’t my initial idea, I just try to find a way to make other peoples ideas happen in as clean a way as I can. I always aim for plug and play where possible, so some of these are doable with less cost and probably less work, but I prefer to be able to fully undo stuff if possible. Also, I HATE vampire clips!

Anyway, all of that being said, let’s get started with a couple that I built this weekend.

Project #1. (Made for @mwrood who is the brave tester for this one)

First up, I made a prototype of a raptor light tap for OEM LED headlights.
    0CD06458-B85B-43E6-A540-CBFB04299BDC.jpg

I took kind of a modular approach here. There is the tee itself, which is a male and female Molex MX150. It will go in between the headlight and the OEM plug. It has a 3 port plug on it coming off the side. That plug has DRL, Park, and Ground. There is a also a 3M>2f little plug as well. This plug has 2 3A diodes (one on the DRL, one on the Park) and the DRL and Park are then combined after those diodes. This then allows the grille lights to be on with the DRL and the parking lights, but be able to be turned off when neither of them is on. And the final piece is just a harness for the grille lights. The nice thing about the modular approach is that I can swap the 3>2 for another module that will act the same as far as the lights being on, but they will be on full brightness with the DRL, and dimmed (the dimming is adjustable) when the parking lights are on. I can also make the headlight tap for TRD’s and TRD to OEM conversion harnesses. So there are a lot of options. I am also working on a way to do it for the SR/SR5, but it gets complex (and pricey) fast. Another nice thing about a modular approach is I hope to be able to adapt these easily to whatever @MESO has coming with his V5 mirror turn signals.

Sorry about it being long winded. I suck at explaining things, and I kind of think as I type. But hopefully this thread will serve to let people see some new possibilities, or at least a new twist on some existing mods. Thanks for reading, and there will be more coming...

I hope my idea makes in here as its the most spaghetti build I have heard of... nothing like having like 5 different mods shoved into a single harness for the tail lights :) Its going to be great and I cant wait to show off pictures/videos when its all done and installed.

And here was this weekends other project

    Project #2.1 (made for @5nahalf )

calling this 2.1 as it isn’t finished, so I’ll concentrate on the back half. For this one, I started with another @MESO idea as 5nahalf has total tails already. So I began by building them from scratch. The drivers side is the most complex. 5nahalf wanted to be able to use his reverse lights as scene lights and be able to turn them on anytime. So there are diodes on the OEM supply side of those bulbs and an added tap post diode so he can wire in a switched 12v+ source to turn the bulbs on whenever he wants. He also wants to be able to use the turn signal for strobe lights, so I did the same thing there, but put diodes on both the turn signal and the strobe input so neither backfeed each other. And 5nahalf also had a brake tap he uses for a 3rd brake light, so I incorporated that as well (the blue and white wires). And while I was doing all this, I figured might as well as hook him up with a DIR and a reverse tap in case he ever wants to add a bright reverse light (and if he does, I know just the guy who will sell him one @memario1214 ). The passengers side is a little simpler. It just has the inputs for the strobe signal and the reverse light anytime switch. There will be more for the strobes on the front end, but that will wait for 2.2 as I ran out of diodes...

Do the ideas all have to be electrical? Or are you interested in some mechanical type stuff too?

Thanks. Sometimes a good one escapes.

    ask and you shall receive!

Also, just a quick shout out to everyone who helps on these! @caribe makaira @Empty_Lord for the invaluable info on what wire does what! Fuse boxes everywhere thank you!
@daveeasa @memario1214 for reining in some of the ideas to make them more viable!
@MESO for the inspiration and doing all of the real hard work so guys like me can just cut it up and build on it!
And to everyone else who has been brave enough to be my guinea pi.... err... volunteer and testing this stuff. There is a lot more out there, but I am the worst when it comes to cataloguing stuff, so hopefully I’ll be better at making a record of things and hopefully that will help out someone down the road.

I do some mechanical tinkering. I am not real good at fabrication though. I am working on my UpTop rack, so it will make it here someday. I built a roller for the rear of it for loading lumber and stuff.

I like the roller idea. I'm tentatively trying to avoid a roof rack on the top of the (not yet received) shell.

@Tacospike I did a speaker injection T harness for my not-yet-installed amp (along with remote turn on lead). What were you after? I'm the kind of unsealed 090II connectors, my ziplock baggie is filled with 6, 10, 2, 5, 15 position M&F and 250+ of 16-18 gauge terminals...

How can anyone respect an AT driver? Unless maybe you lost a leg in the war or somethin' :) :) :)

Oh, and I'll put myself on the hook to do my own OEM LED conversion harness w grille light 3 pin AMP output at some point. I was thinking quite similarly on the diodes mid-stream. Just lower priority for right now until I can get the bulk of the backlog of crimping for the masses done and I really want to get my darn stereo and puddle lights moving this summer...

I would like to see a roller for the tailgate. It could be a simple U shaped bar with door strikers on the ends and feet at the roller. You put down the tailgate, the roller locks into the latches on each side of the tailgate and then the feet holds the roller right on the edge of the tailgate. Would make pushing my kayak into the bed easier and stop the tailgate from rubbing the hull.

My sweet concept. Orange is the tailgate, black is a metal frame, the gray squares click into the tailgates latches, then the gray circles near the bottom of the tailgate are little feet that sit on the tailgate and support the weight. The roller would only work with the tailgate down, and it would have to be removed to put the tailgate back up.

I've seen this somewhere on TW. For unloading logs / trash. Should work fine for loading too depending on where it's mounted. Looking...

Yeah, thats the roller tarp things they have out. Mine would just be a roller used as the pivot point for pushing my kayak in. It could also be used to heavy logs or other long heavy things that you cant really pick the whole thing up.

Bed stiffeners, bolt on schedule 40 3" pipe caps and 2" pipe cut to fit? Slot the caps just right and you can quickly remove /install the bar (one side with top exit, other side probably doesn't need to be slotted.)
