I apologize as I am sure this has been asked many times over but I searched and could not find it ( I am sure because I just couldn't word it right) with a 3" lift is it necessary to replace the control arms? My intention for the lift is mostly for aesthetic purposes and maybe some light trail riding.

I would get new UCA's with a 2.5"-3" lift just so you can get your alignment right

Most replies will say Yes. When lifting you will loose caster and there will not be enough adjustment in the lower control arm adjustments to get the caster back to a number that most people want. Most replacement upper control arms mover the upper ball joint back and this will increase caster. It will also move the tire back in the wheel opening decreasing clearance with the body mount, firewall and inner fender. Tire size, wheel size and offset also play a significant roll in weather you run out of room. The safe lift amount is about 2" at 2.5" you will start to see issues. There are other options but the $ will add up fast. The safe option and least expensive option is to not go over 2" and stick with a tire no bigger than a 31.5 265/75/16 or 265/70/17.
