Manual transmission Fan Club and BS thread (All Generations Welcome)

I've had one since the very first batch (about 18mo) and use it daily to creep into our tight garage without needing to slip the clutch.

 

It won't mess anything up and it's super easy to use and is frankly a blessing given the obnoxious reverse gear in these trucks

 

It’s 100% plug and play. Worst case, you unplug it. Totally worth it.

Thanks guys for all the feedback. It's good to get @Round the world 's perspective too. FWIW, i LOVE my 4LO for tight trail turn arounds and for up hill reversing. The reverse gear SUCKS.

Fully loaded with the fam for a trip, i'm roughly 6500lbs. i don't think i'll ever shed weight unfortunately., only increase as i replace the rear bumper and do some other shit.
I say starting in second gear being a little optimistic. I don't plan to really do that, but i wanted that as an example of the torque i'm expecting.

I think i'm on the fuzzy line between 4.88 and 5.29. Leaning to 5.29 still unless someone can convince me otherwise

 

I still want to try a different shift knob to dial in the setup a bit more. I find the one that comes with the Core kit readily "transmits" noise from the gearbox/drivetrain. When you put your hand on it, it becomes noticeably louder. But, if I throw a work glove over it while on the highway, the sound is reduced.

Anyway, I want to know if a weighted knob makes a difference (like a damper).

if I were you I’d go with the 5.29s. I didn’t feel a ton of difference between stock gearing and them even


4wd lo range, first gear on this. I knew this was going to be a pucker factor here

 

Core makes an isolator that bolts between the stick and tower to tone down some noise. It's just a piece of rubber with some holes so you could easily make one yourself as well.

Installed the underdog racing short throw shifter kit this weekend. Install Was definitely a PITA. Ended up having to re-chase the threads on one of the studs they gave me because they were a little tight and made the nut want to wind the stud in farther as opposed to spinning itself on. Getting those two front nuts on was tough...but I didn’t have a ratcheting box end like they recommended. I made due with some stubby combo wrenches that I had, but without those, it would have been impossible. All in all, took me a couple hours. At the end of the day, I’m happy with the performance...shifts are a lot shorter and the feel is crisp and solid.

$75 well spent on flexy ratcheting wrenches lol. that thing was a PITA to install.

 

Anyone know of any accordion style shift boots that fit the 3rd gen? Kinda dig the old school look
